Phenom's Phunny Photos #2 - The (High) Definition of Karma

Hey HockeyBuzzards,

I'm back with the second instalment of Phenom's Phunny Photos, my humble attempt to embrace the lighter side of the sport we love amidst all the bantering and heated discussions leading up to the Draft and free agency.

In January of this year, Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas made headlines when he decided to decline an invitation by U.S. President Barrack Obama for the 2011 Stanley Cup winning team to visit the White House. He was the only current Cup-winning Bruin to do so. Due to Thomas' personal beliefs that the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People, which he explained on his Facebook page, he chose to exercise his right as a free citizen to forego the outing in the nation's capital with his teammates. This was rumoured to have caused some unrest among the Boston Bruins faithful and also within the team's dressing room although both the organization and his teammates publicly supported the Conn Smythe winning goalie's decision.

The matter was resurrected in April when in an ironic twist of fate, Thomas was forced to travel to DC as the Eastern Conference’s #2 seeded Bruins drew the #7 seeded Washington Capitals in the first round of the 2012 playoffs, eventually losing the series in overtime on home ice in the seventh game. Although Thomas’ decision to snub President Obama’s invitation had nothing at all to do with race whatsoever, some found it rather ironic that it was a black player, Joel Ward, who scored the overtime winner against Thomas, ousting the Bruins and seemingly avenging the honour of the United States first black President.

It just so happens that Phenom’s Phunny Photos managed to catch a snapshot of the President just seconds after the overtime goal was scored, sending the Capitals to the 2nd round and the Bruins to the golf course prematurely.
