The second Mike Babcock decides who is apart of the future with the leafs, That is the second that Lou starts working the phones. No one expects that to go all the way to the deadline, they will most likely start parting company with players after the 15-20 game mark. The mantra in leafland is simple, patience with prospects, patience with the system, patience with management. But under no circumstances will there be patience with experienced veteran players that are expected to make a positive impact personally to the teams growth and long term success.
So who is likely to go On defense?
Jake Gardiner, Reminds me of the politician that is so full of promise than after four years you look back and wonder what happened to all that promise and all that time. This kid can skate no doubt, he is not a babcock type of guy so don't count on him being with the team next year. Sooner if someone pays for his potential. Likely given the whole year though.
Dion Phanuef: Of course available, but don't kid yourself the leafs are not in a hurry to lose him. Clearly coaches love this guy he does everything they ask and he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders and doesn't complain. Not likely to be dealt this year.
Stephane Robidas: Likely retires at the end of the year, if he gets a decent 30-40 games he is worth a 4th/5th at the dealine to a serious contender like Anaheim/Chicago/San Jose/Rangers/Habs/Lightning.
Roman Polak: Best Value will be early, Great at what he does just not a typrical Babcock D man. Peak Value will be at 30-40 games into the season. Worth at the top a second rounder lowest a 3rd and b list prospect.
Hunwick: Seems to be a Babsock cozy and warm keeps those footies tight. Most likely sport socks though he is not a dress sock guy. Gone at the deadline, packaged with another player(good forward) to a contender for a 1st and prospect.
Alone he is a second round pick IF IF IF his effort level stays high and Babs continues to utilize him and grow his value.
Morgan Reilly: Available for McDavid, 2 first round picks, location of Jimmy Hoofa's body and the winning numbers for a 50+million lottery, so he likely stays put as no one would pay what it would take to get him.
Scott Harrington: Likely Leafs listen but unless someone a ton better came back he is staying put.
Martin Marincin: Likely not wearing Blue and white by seasons end unless others left before him. Either Marlies or a place holder.
Frank Corrado: He wants to be here badly and for that he will get look after look from babs but if he isnt't cutting the moustard he won't be traded he will get sent down. Babshanorelli wants enthusiasm for the leafs-Good people-hard workers-true pro's. Thats Franky will get a lot of leeway.
