Roloson has to go.............Lowe is a Hypocrite

I have one question to kevin Lowe, Why did'n't you pick up Bryzgalov off waivers? After last nights debacle I think its written all over the wall that Rolosons's best days are long behind him. The letang goal was as soft as it gets and if Edmonton wants to win games they are going to have to play Garon alot. Roloson's inconsistant play was all to remonnisant of last years depressing finnish to the season. Roloson has to make that save at that particular point in the game. That goal defalted the team. The Oilers were 2 points behind the Coyotes when Bryzgalov was placed on waivers. Lowe could have picked him up and either pulled off a salary dumping trade or place Rolly on waivers. The Goalie tandom of Garon and Bryzgalov would be one of the best in the league. The cap space saved would have been about 2million for the season. Im almost positive that Lowe got a call from Gretzky camp and agreed not to pick up Bryzgalov. In M.P.O after telling the hockey world that he has no friends and that he will do anything to make his team better I do not understand why he never pulled that move off. I think the same reason he never signed Lundquist to a offer sheet. I know that sather pulled a fast one and waived him so he was untouchable to an offer sheet while negotiating but he did that after the Vanek offer sheet. This means that Lundquist was available before that. Sather being smart took him out of availabilty but why that wasn't his first choice for an offer sheet is beyond me. Newyork was so cap strapped at the time there is no way that sather could have matched. Again Lowe put a personal friendship before the Oilers organization. What do you Oiler Fans think about this ? I'm interested in everyones opinion on this. I think lowe is a heart and soul guy but I also think he is a hypocrite.

There is no way Lundqvist would have signed an offer sheet to play in Edmonton.He knew the Rangers signings in July were to make the team better, he wasn't going to try and make things tougher on them. He loves NY, the city, the endorsements and will soon be signing a long term deal in January.Oilers fans. Stop saying "we should have signed Lundqvist"He didn't want to come. So stop torturing yourselves over it.
The Oilers had NO chance of getting Bryzgalov as Phoenix had the worst record inthe league and first choice on waivers. Maybe the Oilers put in a claim, maybe the Lightning put in a claim, but it didn't matter because Phoenix had first choice. The bigger question is why not trade a fourth round draft pick for him before he was put on waivers.
There is no way Burke would have given Bryz to Lowe after the Penner offer sheet, and Phoenix had a chance at Bryz before the Oilers (the waiver order is not on pure points alone, but also on games played). And, like a poster above mentioned, Lundqvist would have to sign the ofrfer sheet, which he probably would not do. The player has a say in offer sheets, it is not simply a case of Lowe saying so. I think the OP should become a little more educated on the facts before making these posts.
Another point is that Lowe couldn't simply dump Roloson like the OP suggests. If Bryzgalov was available for basically nothing why would a team give something up to get Roloson and his contract. As far as waiving him, I don't think that anyone would claim him because of his contract when there are goalies like CuJo and Esche available for much less just sitting at home.
Edm is too close to the cap also - If Lowe had picked up Bryz, they would have to dump a lot of salary immediately. Also, there is no way that Burke would have traded Bryz to Edm regardless of what Edmonton would have offered - Remember, burke already has edm's 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks. And yes, Edmonton's order on the waiver wire was AFTER Phoenix..a day earlier, Edm would have picked first - My guess is that Burke waited until Edmonton was picking after a team that he knew would pick him up
It would be practically impossible for Lowe to get rid of Roloson's contract. Suggesting that Lundqvist would jump ship to play in EDMONTON is ludicrous. Nobody (except Ryan Smythe) wants to play in Edmonton. The correct spelling is: reminiscent. Spelling and grammar are what separate humans from chimpanzees.

hey there smart guy...if you look at the time of that he was put on waivers the Oilers had the second chance at him after Washington...is goes by winning percentage and we were second worse....nice try though, just somebody else who take cheap shots at the most underrated gm in the league
I guarentee Lundquist would have signed the offer sheet money talks and Bull **** walks he would have forced Sather to ship someone off or put another player in the minors. As for the Bryzgalov waiver I thought it was by the standings in the confrence so sorry to all for that............One person had said it would have put them over the cap this is not true Bryzgalov makes 1,181,250 and the oilers have 2,622,458 in payroll room. Maybe they couldn't have picked up Bryz but they could have signed Lunquist to an offer sheet. Like I said in the post they could have done the same thing that the Penguins are doing to recchi to free up space by placing him on waivers and assigning him to the AHL. Im sure someone would pick him up on waivers, if a trade was not possible. Lundquist would sign it because he knows the Rangers are not going to let him go so he would stay there for more money. Lunquist isnt going to give a few million up to be a team player........If anyone believe's that I have some nice swamp land to sell them. I like Lowe I just think that he has made some bad moves recently. The penner signing was a bust. Not signing Lundquist to an offer sheet even if the Rangers wouldnt have let him go it would have made his story of doing w/e it takes to improve the team more credible. A-Mar if you knew anything you would know how the Rangers got rid of KASPARAITIS's 3 million cap hit. Its called demoting the player to the minors.

You're right DJ. All the Oilers would have to do is send Rolo down and his money is subtracted from the cap. The problem is that management is still on the dole for his salary and I don't think the ownership wants to be paying millions for a minor leaguer. Which is why Tampa wouldn't trade a 2nd or 3rd round pick for Bryz. They didn't want to pay for 3 goalies and their net minding situation is even worse than yours! At least you have Garon.As for the most interesting point in your last post, FINALLY an Oiler fan is admitting that the Penner signing was a mistake!!! I thought everyone up north had rose colored glasses on when they were watching him play! Now, Dustin has flashes of brilliance and I think he might be a nice player eventually, but Oiler owners are paying him $4 mil a year to find that out. The point I think you're trying to make is why pay all of that money to Penner when the Oilers already had plenty of offence. You win playoff games and Cups with goaltending and defence.
Actually Edmonton had waiver priority over Phoenix when Bryzlgalov was waived. It is a ranking based on percentage of possible points. (Basically just your actual points divided by {games played X 2}). If the Oilers wanted them, they were third on the list behind only Washington and Buffalo surprisingly. Phoenix was next after Edmonton. And as for Lundqvist being "waived" as you said. That was not the case, if he was waived that means he is on waivers and up for grabs. I believe what you were looking for was "arbitration". A player who is up for arbitration (teams can now take players to arbitration with the new CBA) is not eligible to receive an offer sheet. And even if Lundqvist was available to receive one, why would the oilers offer him one? The Oilers are decent enough in net with Garon and Roloson (yes Garon was picked up later), and their defense is more than adequate compared to last year especially. But the forwards are still nowhere close to deep. They still require a top six forward, a winger to play with Hemsky and Horcoff. Vanek would have filled that spot perfectly. He used to train in Edmonton in the summers, knows the city, is a young solid player with star power, who fits the bill of what Edmonton needs. A goal scorer to benefit from Hemsky the set-up man. Having Garon/Roloson in net and Vanek up front would be much better in my opinion (for the Oilers) than having Lundqvist in net and a rotation of Gagner, Torres and Nilsson on the top line. Goaltending is great, but without scoring what does it get you? Ask Florida all those years they had Luongo. Without a good set of forwards to score goals, goaltending doesn't matter so much. And despite all of this even if Lowe had tendered him an offer sheet, Sather would have dumped salary to match. With Buffalo losing Briere and Drury it is possible that their ownership was never willing to put so much money into one player, and that they would not match. NY would have matched, simple as that, Slats always finds a way.
Can people simply realise that the Oilers CAN'T claim a player without DROPPING a player cause they are at the 50 contract maximum. They can't just waive Rolson, they would have had to trade him (or anyone else) to make that happen. And why would anyone trade for Roloson if they can get Bryz for free (other than the salary of course). And Rangers fans, don't be naive. There is no such thing as loyalty among players today. If you think Ludqvist would have turned down a max salary offer because he loves New York, you are just naive and I have a bridge to sell you. And A-Mar, you almost had a good post until you showed your ignorance with the no one wants to play in Edmonton comment. You can spell, but you're still ignorant.
Rollie wasn't the problem last year, and he played great the first 2 periods against the Pens and adaquate the third. It was more defensive breakdowns that cost them the game.
DJ, for the record I never said anything about Kasparaitis or his cap hit... I talked about the likelihood of Lundqvist jumping ship to join the Oilers. Correct me if I'm wrong but you just admitted that he would have just used the offer sheet to get what he wanted from the Rangers... so what exactly would be the point in Edmonton tendering such an offer if it is to be surely rejected? It would be a pretty shoddy way to lend credence to his claims. Thank you Deke for pointing out the obvious that Lundqvist was never on WAIVERS. Roloson would not be claimed on waivers or re-entry waivers or in any scenario as his re-entry number would still be 1.75million. Kurri, if people are clamouring to play in Edmonton, please explain to me why Kevin Lowe was rebuffed by everyone but Souray and forced to dip into RFA pool because no UFA's would sign the dotted line. Michael Nylander ditched a contract offer from Edmonton because the same money came along from a different team. People don't want to go to Edmonton because Edmonton is cold and has a great deal of travel time involved. Its an hour flight to Calgary (five hours drive), not many players feel like taking 4 hour flights for divisional games...

A-Mar5 hour drive eh? I've never flown Edmonton to Calgary, but it's less then a 90 minute flight to Van from Calgary, so I'm thinking it isn't an hour from Calgary to Edmonton. And Nylander was actually offered less from the Caps. You're as bad as Ek talking about all the outdoor rinks in Edmonton in June.
its not two and half, because it takes 7-8 to get from Fort Mac to Calgary (half of that is getting to Edmonton). I will admit to hyperbole, but seriously, if you are driving anywhere near the speed limit, you aren't going to make it in 2 hours. And you want to compare your 90 minute flight? I took the flight from Calgary to Edmonton and it was 50 minutes, closer to 80, if you want to count all the time sitting around on that little death trap of an airplane that they use for short distance flights. Concentrate less on my actual hour figures and more on the fact that whether its 3 hours or 5 hours, its still alot of travel time when you consider what a team like New Jersey or Boston undertakes.
