The Buffalo Sabres D Core is soft.... I know alot of people are going to not like what was just said but its true. the only one thats doing their job is Spacek. They dont hit and play a finese defence. players are allowed to go right in on goal and do what they please. Please get me a player that clears the front of the net.
Lydman and Tallinder are shadows of their old selves. they are not the #1 D they were the last year and a half. they are sloppy in their zone with their give aways and inability to clear the zone. You need your #1 D pair to be your best pair.
Campbell is a great OFFENSIVE Defencemen. Offensive being the key word. Hes a Souray type player that lacks ability on defence and will earn a 5 mil dollar paycheck this off season and hopefully not with the Sabres.
Paetch looks like a 6th round pick. His inability to make plays and read plays shows. Hes a good 7th but not in the top 6.
Kalinin just isnt the player he was in 03-04. constant give aways end up in the back of the net (EX Hossa) he does not use his size to hit and lacks offence. i kno hes been injured but its been the same deal since the lock out with this guy. Emence talent thaqts probably never going to go any where.
I hope this is just my pessamistic side talking but if this does not change y would Ryan Miller stay here. its a known fact that he wants to win a cup and if this franchise will not do whats necessary to do that i would walk after next year if i was him.
im sure some people wont like what was said but im just saying what i see.. let the debate begin......
there is not one guy on this roster i would consider an untouchable...including miller in fact he may be at or near the top of the list and as for campbell if its going to cost 4-5 mil per i agree i hope its somewhere else ..we can always find a replacement for campbell
Not resigning Campbell makes about as much sense as eating some elmer's glue.
We got a few I'm sure you guys could use. A guy named Zidlicky would be better suited to the Eastern conference.
I disagree with you on Campbell, I think we do need sign him but definitely before his price tag goes higher than 5M. Any higher than that and I have to say let him go. I DEFINITELY agree on the need for at least one more stay at home, hitting d-man to play with Pratt. That means letting the finesse guys go somewhere else.
I agree that we need to show some desire to win, and keeping Campbell is part of the equation. He's important to the "core" and I still think Soupy/Spacho pairing is one of the good d-pairs in the league. I say move Kalinin/Paetsch for a solid stay at home d-man, as well as move a forward and maybe a pick for someone who might be considered a game breaker, or at least someone who will go in and take a puck to the mouth.
Campbell will be fine but he needs a good defensive d-man to pair up with. I've been screaming for more grit on this team since the trade deadline 2 years ago! Too many sweethearts and not enough sandpaper. All the pretty plays only get you so far in the playoffs!Get rid of Peters and get someone in that can fight AND play(Eric Boulton)
I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH GETTING RID OF PETERS... a big waste of space; $525,000 in cap space that is..
I dont fully agree to dropping campbell to a degree if his price tag does go above the 5 mill mark then i say we look for replacement kalinin, paetsch and the Tempo need to go. Kalinin for give-ups Paetsch for not being where the puck is and Tempo well that would be for not playing. And i hate to say this but i feel the need for a selfish player that would take a damn shot every once and awhile. I am willing to bet our PP percentage would be double if someone would take a shot
Sabertooth58: Back off my Boults :)
One of Ruff's mistakes, cutting Boulton and keeping Peters. George Laraque would look good in blue and gold!
Anyone wants Malik?
