Look, sports are a business. I don't care how classy Sundin and Kaberle are because they "love their city", or any of the other 17,000 players that seem to have NTCs in the NHL, but what ever happened to a GM being able to manage their team?
The NTC gives a player too much leverage. Boo hoo you don't want to be traded, well then, stop sucking! If you want to earn that money that is exponentially higher than anything me or the average fan will ever make, then put up points!
Sundin is awesome, and he says he loves his city, but he will do more for the city he "loves" if he grabs them prospects and picks rather than doing NOTHING.
If I were a GM, and one of my players was underperforming, I'd ship him out faster than you can say Collective Bargaining Agreement!
The NTC gives players leverage over the team, which is ridiculous. Do you have leverage over YOUR boss? I don't think so.
Abolish the NTC.
GM are the ones responsible for signing the players and agreeing to the NTC. Minnesota policy is that they do not give out NTC in their contract. GM's need to be held responsible for their actions!
True, but if the NTC was illegal, then the players would not demand it. They would be forced to sign a contract, and then earn that money.
... how about stuff like steroids as the worst thing that happened to sports?
that's only if you consider baseball a sport ;)
Since the GMs can't be responsible with their NTC/NMC, they should be removed? What about players taking less money for that clause to keep them in a city and to give stability to their families? Is that selfish of them? It's a bargaining chip for both sides; UFAs may cost less
