I don't mean for politics to enter a hockey website, but did anyone else see the irony in tonight's events?
7 minutes after the Flyers beat the Caps in Overtime, Hillary Clinton - who is fighting for a change in the highest office in D.C. - could be seen on CNN addressing supporters in Philadelphia.
That group Hillary addressed was a rambunctious bunch. I counted at least two people with Flyers merchandise in the crowd - one seemed to be text messaging on their phone.
Pennsylvania's in the limelight tonight, eh?
Caps Fate
What an emotional ride for Washington fans. I really feel for them because this was a tough, tough end to take. I don't care what others say, but to win game 6 in the way they did, and play the very next night, and lose like this in your home building, this stings SO much. They made a remarkable comeback and they were right there.
Alex O. and Co. deserved better. That's OK. They'll be back in full force. Just like Pittsburgh retooled after their early playoff exit last season, and now are a formidable opponent in the postseason, Washington will do the same. I'm excited to watch them next year, to be honest.
Briere and Montreal
You can't script a match-up much better than this. Between the horrible officiating all year long, Sidney Crosby scoring the GWG in the SO of the Winter Classic, Alex Ovechkin sneaking into the playoffs, and the small-market Buffalo Sabres on the outside looking in this postseason with eight solid markets in the playoffs instead - is anyone else starting to wonder if the NHL IS trying to script some of this stuff? Now I know it's an outrageous claim, and I don't mean to start a conspiracy - I'm far from that sort of person. It's just very ironic, isn't it?
I can't WAIT to see Danny in Quebec. I hope he gets leveled, several times, laid out, schooled, and that his team is downright outplayed. This isn't anything against Danny - he's a great person, very classy, and I'm hardly bitter about him leaving Buffalo. But as I said a LONG time ago, Montreal is my team this season now that Buffalo's out, and I'm still pulling for them! MAKE HIM PAY for choosing not to play in Montreal. Show him he made the wrong choice. Have him warm up the golf clubs.
Habs in 5.
<b>NYR vs. PIT</b>
Great match-up here too. I know the Atlantic Division has been solid all year, but if someone told me months ago that 3 Atlantic Division teams and one Northeastern team would be left standing for the second round, I'm be shocked, really.
This is a really compelling match-up. It'll be a goaltending battle and this series could, honestly, go either way. Sid the Kid, Malkin and Co. and the Youthful Penguins create quite the challenge for the Veteran-Filled, complemented by young rising stars like Dubinsky and Callahan, NY Rangers. It's such a hard one to predict and I fully expect it to go the distance.
Rangers in 7. Drury the GWG to end the series.
---Enjoy the games!---
Bitter table for one!!!
I see the Habs in 6 and Pens in 6 as well. Flyers will put up a fight but i see a Pens-Habs Conf. Final coming up.
Briere was unsigned for like half an hour...he was never going to Montreal and they need to get over it...go destroy their town over a series 1 win or something...what a bunch of idiots......I'm sure Briere won't be bothered by the "boos"...he heard then after scoring too many times on Washington...Flyers in 6...Rangers in 7...
Yea the whole Montral and Breire thing is a joke, he was never going there. If they beat the Flyers how badly will they destroy the city this time?
Briere classy? I think he's a good player, but he's chippy and dirty. Spears to the groin don't pass as classy in my book. Briere wasn't going to Montreal because he said it wouldn't feel right going to another NE division team. I think as a French-Canadian the pressure of playing in Montreal was also a factor. Sabres fans are more pissed at the managing partner Larry Quinn more than anything. Not so much bitter over missing the playoffs or losing Drury
(con't)
Hey RWRusso, I think Briere is a classy guy. Never said he's classy on the ice, but off it, he's as good as pro athletes come. Can't find much wrong with the guy and can't blame him at all for packing up and starting over again in Philly.
