There was an interesting article on the Official Sharks site about the Scoutting staff preparing for the upcomming draft. Here's the link to the original article:

I wasn't aware of it before, because I was not a hockey fan at the time of last years draft, but the team didn't have a pick in the first round, then ended up with two. For those of you out there that are hopeful the team will acquire a first round pick this year, this may be a hint that it may happen again.
If not, the article notes that on average, the Sharks had 17 out of 23 players on the roster last season that were acquired through drafting, leaving me hopefull that a later round pick would still end up being a good player for the organization.
Given that there is so much emphasis on this years first round, I feel too much would have to be offered in exchange for such a pick. I could see the possibilty of a trade that would get us into the second round though, and there should still be some great talent in that round also to chose from. Possibly a trade including Carle, Goc, or Erhoff (just some names thrown out there) and a pick from next year for a pick in this years second round.
Thoughts, comments, ideas...?
I think right now they are actively pursuing a trading partner for Marleau which could bring in a first. Columbus has the 19th overall which might be a target for the sharks.
