NHL Week In Review

It was an interesting past week in the NHL as we saw a few trades and some great games. First off, the Wade Dubielewicz situation was very interesting to say the least. The Isles have had serious problems with their goaltending, as Rick Dipietro has been hurt, and so has Joey MacDonald. Due to that, the Isles wanted to bring back Dubie because they didn't want to have Yann Danis and Peter Mannino as the two goalies. The Isles and Dubie agreed to a deal, but what Garth Snow failed to understand was that because Dubie came back to the NHL, he ended up being placed on waivers. The entire time, the Isles were expected to sign him, but here comes the Blue Jackets flying in and they end up signing Dubie. Pascal LeClaire is hurt and probably won't play again this season, so I completely understand the move. Not only that, but you don't want to wear out young prized goaltender Steve Mason.

Next, the Pens and Oilers swapped goalies. The Pens got Mathieu Garon, while the Oilers got Dany Sabourin, minor league forward Ryan Stone, and a fourth round pick. This is a good deal for both teams because the Pens get a guy in Garon who can start once and a while when Marc-Andre Fleury needs a break. The Oilers get Sabourin, who will be the backup to Dwayne Roloson, who has been hot of late. Also, they get Stone and a fourth round pick, and with the deep pool of talent that is expected in the 09 draft, the fourth rounder will be nice to have.

Here we go with the Vinny rumors. Obviously, the Habs are willing to give up a ton for Vinny Lecavalier, but the Bolts GM Brian Lawton said that he wouldn't trade Vinny. That's definitely understandable, Vinny is the #1 guy in Tampa, he's the definition of franchise player. It's always tough for a GM when it comes to trading a guy of Vinny's caliber. However, you have to be very thorough in your thinking, and make sure that you make the right decision. If I was Lawton, I would not trade Vinny because he is just too valuable to the Bolts, they don't need to trade him, they need to build around him.

There were some exciting games this week. On Monday night, the Red Wings and Stars went to OT, and the Stars won 5-4. The Wings had a 3-1 lead in the game, but the Stars came all the way back to win. On Tuesday night, the Bruins defeated the Habs 3-1. The Bruins proved that they are a team to be reckoned with. Then on to Wednesday night, Ovie vs. Sid. Ovie's team, the Capitals prevailed 6-3. Ovie scored twice for the Caps, while Sid got injured. On Thursday night, the Sharks streak of not losing a game in regulation at home ended when the Flames defeated the Sharks 3-2. The last loss for the Sharks in regulation at home was on February 14th of last season. Friday night, the Rangers defeated the Blackhawks in overtime at Chicago, 3-2. Chris Drury scored twice, includin the game winner in overtime. This was one of the more exciting games between the East versus the West. Last night, the Caps defeated the Bruins 2-1. Alex Semin and Mike Green scored for Washington, and that was enough to defeat the Bruins. For the Caps psyche, it was a big win for them mentally. Today on NBC, the Pens shutout the Rangers 3-0. Marc-Andre Fleury was outstanding in this game. Henrik Lundqvist stopped Sidney Crosby on a penalty shot, but King Henrik was the only good thing for the Rangers today.
