Here comes da' Ray Emery bandwagon, DE • United States • 15 Years Old • Male
Simon Gagne scored two goals, including an empty net goal as time expired, and the Flyers defeated the Hurricanes, 3-1 tonight. Gags's first goal of the game was a chip shot, as there was a big scramble in front of the net, and Simon got open and scored to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. In the second period, the Flyers struggled a little bit, as the Canes pressured the Flyers, and Chad Larose scored to tie the game at 1 in the second period. However, in the third period, the Flyers turned it on. Da' man Matt Carle scored his first goal as a Flyer, and I knew he'd do it at some point. Matt had played really well defensively and the offense was going to come. This all started with a nice play by the young 18 year old Luca Sbisa. Then, as I mentioned, Simon scored into the empty net as time expired. I'll tell you what, Antero Niittymaki played a heck of a game for the Flyers tonight, as he played a big part in getting the Flyers the win. There were times where the Flyers were shorthanded, and Niitty came up big. Especially on the rare 3 on 3 in the third period. In my opinion, if Niitty gets the opportunity to play, then he will make the most of his opportunity and play well. You never know, Niitty might be able to start one of the two games this weekend, whether it is the second game of the home at home against the Canes, or Saturday night in Toronto. I'd give Niitty the opportunity. How about Richie and Brindy? Those two were going at it big time in this game. Those two had some words with each other, and it would be interesting to here what they had to say. But what I was really impressed about was late in the game in the Flyers zone, Richie won two BIG faceoffs against Brindy, and that was very important. Ever since Clarkie came over to their practice a few weeks back to give them tips on faceoffs, they have improved on faceoffs. Early in the first period, Josh Gratton dropped the gloves with Wade Brookbank. Grats might not be the best fighter, or the most intimidating, but he definitely knows his role, and I like that. Since he's came up here with the Flyers, he has played solid on the fourth line, and has added grit and energy to that line. Speaking of that fourth line, Grats, Jon Kalinski, and Arron Asham have played solid and they have been able to create chances in their own zone.

Flyers had plenty of chances. This one was closer than it should have been.
