My first round picks

Posted 2:56 PM ET | Comments 6
The playoffs are among us so i thought I would join the train and come out with my predictions for the first round this year.

Montreal (1) vs. Boston (8)

This series is extremely tough to call as I think the habs do have the upper hand talent wise but if Boston steps it up just a little bit I think they have the potential to take out the habs. What I don't think will happen is the Carey Price folding. I think he will preform well for the habs. If Montreal plays their style and does not get forced to play Bostons game I see this as Habs in 5.

Montreal in five games

Pittsburgh(2) vs. Ottawa(7)

I see Pittsburgh taking this one. Murray's attempt to cause disruption and take attention away from his falling sens will not work and the Pens take out Ottawa is 6. Even without the goalie problems there would still be Problems in Ottawa I think. The team just is not playing well together at all and it will continue in for the Sens on their way to being out in the first round.

Pens in six games

Washington (3) vs. Philly (6)

Washington is coming in firing on all cylinders and have two solid goaltenders should one falter. It is going to be exciting to see what Ovechkin brings into the playoffs. Fedorov will help greatly in helping this team with all his cup experiences. I see Philly playing their rough style but I see the Caps overcoming it and winning this one out in a good battle.

Washington in Seven

New York Rangers (4) Vs. New Jersey Devils (5)

Brodeur played another heavy regular season which could back fire on him again this year. I don't see the Rangers losing this one to be perfectly honest, they have too many components that I think will beat the devils out.

Rangers in five games

Detroit (1) vs. Nashville (8)

Detroit needs to come out strong early in this series and set the tempo. If they do that I think they can win. This series is going to be hard to predict and I think its the hardest to call. If the Wings give Nashville any advantage or the early lead in the series I think the Preds can take it.

My guess is Wings in five

San jose (2) vs. Calgary (7)

I think the Sharks are going to be the team to beat in the West and if a team can take them out they are the ones going to the finals from the West. I don't give Calgary much of a chance in this series as I don't think they have what it takes to beat the sharks. Kipper needs to step up for this to be close.

San Jose in Four!

Minnesota (3) vs. Colorado(6)

The Wild are a big question mark to me. It all depends on which Wild team shows up. The Av's are getting up there in age, but they have a wealth of experience which will help them. If Theodore steps up his game the Av's could pull this out. However if the Wild show up and play like themselves they will win out.

Wild in six.

Anaheim (4) Vs. Dallas (5)

I am going to go out on a bit of a limb here and say Dallas could be the surprise in the West. Although they have faded slightly I think they could just be sleeping and will wake up here and cause a big surprise and knock off the ducks. The ducks are built for the playoffs and will be well rested. This will be a tough series and this could come down to a battle of the goalies much like the Dallas Vancouver series from last year. If Turco shows up look out.

Dallas in 7

I have a feeling that all 8 series will be very exciting and will not disappoint. Games begin tonight and I am looking forward to it. THE PLAYOFFS HAVE ARRIVED!!!

Here's hoping that Turdo suffers a nervous break down and screws up Dallas' chances of advancing into the semis

Go back and jump in the water. Swim until your brain clears and then re-write your predictions. Peace and love.

Nice call on the Flames/Sharks series. This one goes the distance and either team can win it.

Nice blog, though SJ in four has already been proven wrong. I also think the Pens will take the Sens in less than 6 games. I wont predict a sweep, but Ottawa is just a mess right now.

Yeah big time wrong with the Flames. They came out a lot harder than I expected them to. If they keep it up it could go the distance. Big win for the Av's in OT last night also.

basically what happened in San Jose was what needs to happen for Calgary to win... Kipper needs to be huge, Iginla needs to be the franchise, and the bounces need to go Calgary's way.
