Finger food for thought

Its been quite interesting the past few days and I am quite excited that trades seem to be back. YAY!

Leafs: I've noticed that alot of people HATE the moves that the leafs have made so far. And I cannot fully understand why. While I do agree that the leafs paid a fair bit for Finger and Hagman I don't think it has a negative effect on what the leafs are trying to accomplish, and I think it is a smart move for a rebuilding team. First off - Everyone seems to complain about the cap space these signings are taking up but really does cap space matter to a rebuilding team? And we all know the leafs can afford the salaries from a pure financial point. If people want the leafs to rebuild these signings are very very good. Many have argued that they should allow all their young kids play on the pro squad, but over look the fact that the team needs to be competitive to have a truly be able to bring kids along. if you were to put the majority of the Marlies on the pro team the team would have too hard a time competing and the kids would not learn. The best way to bring kids along is to have them playing with vets on their lines so they can learn. If you really want a proper rebuild it is what the leafs are doing, surrounding the young kids with vets and doing that for 3 or four years. And i think the leafs are doing good.

Tampa: One word. Wow!... They are aggressively trying to make this better, and the moves they have been making have been great. I am a bit surprised by the Boyle move, as the lightning struggled so much because of losing him to injury. But they seem to be getting a good return and likely have more moves to come. I'm not a big fan of getting Malone as I think he is overrated, but I do hope he proves me wrong.

Minnesota: I'm not sure what to think of this team. Hard losing rolston, and Demitra but they did add a few good pieces. I heard Morrison is being sought so maybe that will help. I am not sure how the Wild will do next season, but I think its either they start the season well and are in playoff position of alot of vets will get moved out and the a small rebuild will begin.

Jagr: So much for that reliable Russian source being laughable. As soon as it was said a russian source was mentioned to was brushed aside as basically fake.

Hossa: Proved me wrong. Solid move going to detriot for a year. Makes them very dangerous.

San Jose: Blake and Boyle add alot to the Defense. Great moves. Scary team again.

Dallas: Avery signing is Awesome for them, and even better for Avery. I think they are the perfect fit, and they will be a frustrating team to place against.

Buffalo: I think Buffalo will be rebuilding after this season, they are not getting better, and I think it will just be harder getting to sign players.

There is alot more that has gone on, but i am out of time for now.

Thoughts on Finger: He's a very dependable blue-liner with a deceptive slap-shot which he does not use enough. He is good defensively, but he isn't a shut down defenseman like Fletch says he is. He's a good player who got quite overpaid.
