So here we go another year... and another year at that in the shadows of the other various NHL teams. Picked my many so called experts to come in 30th place in the league. Some even went as far as saying "ok 29th at best." But yet another year of the Islanders battling not only for just a playoff spot, but this year it seems the division or home ice advantage in the first round.

Ok I can see where the experts were coming from when they were saying we could never bring in enough offense to make up for the departures of Jason Blake, Ryan Smyth, and yes even our old friend "The Captain" (ha) Yashin. But as Garth is proving again this year its not bring in the best guys but rather the right guys. Most of the Islander free agent pickups were average at best at scoring but all had one common trait. They come play every night no matter if they are playing the best team or the worst team. Nolan has proven to us once again that he is the best active coach in the league getting the very best out of all his players.

The Islanders are clearing playing for themselves and their fans. There is no stand out guy on the whole (many guys tied in goals with 5), but rather it seems to be one line or guy that gets the job done every night. The beginning of the year saw the Comrie line putting up big numbers, then the sillie line and now as Billy Jaffe likes to call him "magic miro" is getting the job done with 3 straight game winners.
Rick is putting up big numbers once again, but no one is talking about him but rather that girl they call the king in NYC. All the so called experts on TSN and ESPN seem to ignore the fact the DP has taken control in goalie duels with the king and martin numerous times this year alone. (4-0 against the Devils and Rangers)

The isles who only played 13 games with this wacky schedule have managed to put up 18 points. The Canadians and the Sens have put up 21 and 28 points respectively in 16 games. Assuming the isles win those games in hand the Islanders could technically have 24 points, making them the 3rd best team in the NHL in the standings. I would like to think that those numbers would deserve some respect by the league and the people that report on the league. So please start talking about us because we are the real deal and will continue to win games because of our grit, character, and heart!
