gonna keep the pissing and whining relatively short and sweet ... but gotta love how 99% of blog feedback on this site is negative ... keep it up guys ... like obviously you enjoy reading other people's thoughts and views or you wouldn't be doing it ... or wouldn't be on this site at all .... but the fact that all i got on the last blog "player by player" that i wrote was negative (except one i think) was a joke ... when someone asks what you think of their work ... personal attacks of being on drugs or being retarded is childish, not what i for one am looking for and in my opinion users posting garbage remarks like that should have their commenting privileges revoked ... there's a difference between collective criticism or making offensive comments and between voicing your opinions versus trying to belittle someone elses'. in any case ... if a moderator reads this blog I would appreciate having the comments on my last one reviewed and some sort of warning in the very least issued to the users posting the dribble they did ... and on a side note ... all of my forward predictions (except Orr) were purposely inflated in order to prove a point (point proven by the way)

MOVING ON!

My standings predictions are based on what teams have, or in some cases have not, done in my opinion that will have a direct effect on where they finish in the standings in each conference.

EAST

1st - Pittsburgh
2nd - Washington
3rd - Boston
4th - Philadelphia
5th - New York R
6th - Tampa Bay
7th - Toronto
8th - Montreal
9th - New Jersey
10th - Carolina
11th - Ottawa
12th - Atlanta
13th - Buffalo
14th - New York I
15th - Florida

Couple notes on this ...

First, I think Philly will actually be 2nd in points, but with divisional winners going 1, 2, 3, they'll drop to 4th.

Secondly, I genuinely think that 5th through 11th is wide open, especially if a few trades happen, in particular with Canadian teams, regarding Heatley and Kaberle, and if with the division Carolina plays in.

Thirdly, I think the Devils will be out of the playoffs for the first time, in god knows how long! Brodeur alone can't carry this team this year I don't think. This saddens me, because the Devils are dynasty like in their own sense, like the Wings, over the last decade-decade and a half, as it seems like they always finish up in the standings, if not have deep playoff runs, and for the better part of that time frame they have done it from the back end out.

Lastly, we'll see some big jumpers this year! Tampa has a team in place that may even contend for their division. Toronto, also playing in a division, that if nothing else, is full of unknowns as to how it will play out, has solidified it's own end to a point where they will contend for a playoff spot and poor Panthers' fans look to be in for a bad season, with not a lot to get excited about, having lost franchise corner stone, and to date (nothing official at least), have done very little to improve on last season.

Out west we go!

1st - San Jose
2nd - Chicago
3rd - Calgary
4th - Vancouver
5th - Anaheim
6th - Columbus
7th - Detroit
8th - Los Angeles
9th - St Louis
10th - Minnesota
11th - Phoenix
12th - Edmonton
13th - Nashville
14th - Dallas
15th - Colorado

Couple notes on this -

Firstly, let's clarify my stance on the Wings. They lost 3 of their top 9 forwards. Lidstrom's age was starting to show in the finals, more than I've ever seen. Their defense is aging and slowing fast, with or with Chelios and they are going with Osgood, who is also getting old, and although has yet to show many signs of struggling because of it, will be hard pressed to perform at the same level with his aging defense.

Secondly, L.A. fans... Get excited. You're heading for the playoffs. Great moves this off season and a great first round selection who could potentially step into the lineup. Your prospects are coming into their own and will be exciting to watch. I wanna be one of the first on the band wagon down there!

Thirdly, St. Louis, sorry, you have a great team coming into their own as well, and will replace one of these teams in the near future. But they remain too strong and with the emergence of L.A. as a playoff team, someone had to slide out.

Fourthly, in fairness to 9th - 11th, much like the east, these spots will all be battling until the final games for a playoff spot!

That's all for now, I welcome all TASTEFUL comments and replies!

OK fine. Why assume that Devils are out simply because of the loss of Madden and Gionta? Rolston could finally step up and score the 30 goals he promised replacing those lost. Secondly, a fairly solid defense last season already, now coached by Lemaire? Lastly the "x" factor of the youth needed that was sorely missed towards the end of last season.

Dude chill out man...let people voice their opinions. There all habs fans anyway checking out the leafs page and what's new. Don't you feel sorry for them? I do, look on the bright side, atleast we don't have to watch the smurfs play hockey next year.

Man if you're gonna write in a public forum, you gotta accept that some people are just dick's. Barring that, I think that in the East you have NYR finishing first, presumably because of lundquist, yet you have teams with great goltending and maybe a better all around team finishing out of the playoffs. Buffalo and Ryan Miller finishing at the bottom? I just don't see it. And Florida has some young talent I think last is a stretch.

edit: NYR 5th

Eastern conference 5-7 replaced with 9-11... problem solved.

so is disagreement distasteful? I think a lot of the 'drug references' from your last post that you're viewing as character assassinations were just using the sensationalism of such reference to make their point: that you were extremely off the mark in talent assessment of the Leafs forward group.

A-Mar July 14, 2009 9:17 PM ET | DeleteI found that his projections for defence aren't completely out to lunch but his forward projections are the result of some intense toad licking.

A-Mar July 14, 2009 5:59 AM ET | DeleteBozak and Hanson will not get 30-40 points... Kulemin, a guy with a great deal more talent only potted 20 last year... if either of those guys stick I wouldn't expect more than 15-25 pts... and you must be sniffing glue if you think Jason Blake will ever approach 75pts again.

pretty tasteless "sensationalism" ... even if it is just a "reference point" ... try using adjectives instead of verbal assaults ;)
July 17, 2009 6:15 PM ET | Delete
Philly 2nd in Points???? Really??? So where exactly is the offense coming from? They took a step backwards in regards to offensive output, added Pronger on defense...I see them playing ALOT of one goal games, which we all know, can go either way with the bounce of the biscuit.

Pandofan...Youth factor is a Regular Season Factor....Exhibit A = CHicago Blackhawks! ...Needless to say, The NJ Devs dont have nearly the youth Chicago has in their system, the only team close is the Blues. So settle down, and enjoy another Devil season of riding the shirt-tails and skitching---Good ole Devil LeMaire Hockey is back in town!

I would think that real adjectives would come off as much more of a verbal assault than an offhanded toad-licking reference. If I were to say 'your views of Toronto's forwards and placing are hugely utopian and display, from my perspective, a total lack of insightful understanding for the realities of the NHL' would it not seem more the verbal attack?
July 17, 2009 6:46 PM ET | Delete
and what was the point you were making by projecting the Leafs as the highest scoring team in the league?

Every year people count Nashville out, yet they always squeek in. I don't think it's worth marking them out anymore. It's honestly a waste of them being there (like Montreal is a waste being in).. but hey, people seem to squeeze MTL in.

a-mar ... that is far less offensive to me because that shows some sort of intellect on your part in a reply! ... also i dont ACTUALLY think the leafs will be 1st in scoring ... although top 10 isn't out of the question again... especially if a top liner is added through trading kabs ... detn8r ... good point man ... might have to revise ... but the west is gonna be SO tough !
July 18, 2009 2:32 AM ET | Delete
first of all kulemin potted 31 points last yr well missing 9 games he also potted 15 goals... so get ur facts straight ...
July 18, 2009 7:47 AM ET | Delete
Which of course immediately qualifies him for superstardom. I thought I remembered Mr. Kulemin clocking in at 29 pts... my bad. But let's be honest here: the difference between mid 20's and 31 is negligible. My point remains that this guy is not going to spring from 31(!) to 75 with 30 goals with the nine more games.
