"Who's going to break the Leafs lineup this year?"

Burke said he would move Andropov he did. He said if he couldn't sign Moore he would trade him.

Sundin, McCabe, Belak, Kilger, Moore, Andropov, Tucker, Raycroft, Clemmenson, Wellwood are all gone love them or hate them that team is gone. The above represents 24 plus million dollars in salary.

He said he wanted to get a few more draft picks because some had been traded away and he got a 2nd for Andro, 2nd for Moore, and 4th for Petiout but had to carry dead contracts until the end of the season.....smart move really!

They now have more than 10 million dollars in cap room and if they make moves by the summer who knows who they could sign.
Last night he said he would go after UFAs agressively on July 1st.

Then he said he can make this team competetive real fast real fast!

I've heard rumours of the Sedin twins(top 6), Tod Marchant(bottom six) as these guys are all Burke and of course there are others.

What do you think?

hmm 10 mill is not that much once you land 1 top free agent...jaybo will get 6- 7 mill im sure and the sedins will want atleast 5 each. so really wwe only have room for 1 big UFA and a couple smaller ones unless burke trades more salery away at the draft.

yeah... the 10m goes fast... look at the signings/acquisitions from this past summer: Finger 3.5, Hagman 3, Mayers 1.3, Frogren 1, Van Ryn 2.9... my math is foggy but that looks like 11.7m... so it gets eaten up quickly... even by mid-range guys...

That is all fine and dandy! However, Mr. Burke used quite a few of the B words in his initial presser (belligerence, bellicosity, etc) Other than Brad May, I don't see anyone on the free agent market that comes close. Why is Jeff Hamilton playing ahead of Andre Deveaux? How is Jeff Hamilton any better than Tim Stapleton? So many of the things he has done confuses me.

They actually have 15-16 mill in cap space depending on if the cap falls or stays the same and whatnot. Already have 16 players signed through next year, so that leaves 15-16 mill for 3-4 guys, not including trades, etc. If he wants to be active, he can be. We'll quickly figure out whether this is a long-term re-build or a short-term re-tool.
