Leafs Early Season Woes

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
Year after year the Toronto Maple Leafs make big off season changes in a hope end the 40 year Stanley Cup drought. This off season was no different. Trading the 1st round pick in last years NHL entry draft for goaltender Vesa Toskala & forward Mark Bell, and signing 40-goal man & unrestricted free agent to a 5-year/$20 Million contract. The Leafs management faile...

Re-D-fining Offense

Do you know which Ranger is tied with Brendan Shanahan for the team lead in goals. Superstar Jagr? Nope. Speedster Gomez? Nope. Its actually Michael Rozsival. Do you know who scored the only overtime goal for the Rangers this season. Mr. Clutch Drury? Nope. Legendary Brendan Shanahan? Nope. Its actually Jason Strudwick. Dont forget Daniel Girardi and Fedor Tyut...
Take a look at the shots on goal from the previous 4 games. Keep in mind though, that the Rangers lost 3 out of 4 of these games, and their opponents earned 7 of the 8 possible points. Also keep in mind that the Rangers were outscored 14-7 in those games. NY Rangers 29 New Jersey 17 NY Rangers 32 Atlanta 22 NY Rangers 25 Toronto 16 NY Rangers 28 ...
Ah, memories of my youth. You remember the one I'm talking about. The first time you play with a Rubiks Cube is always the worst, because it doesn't matter what your friend or parents tell you. You think it will be easy. And after 4 frustrating hours, tears and throwing the damn thing against the floor, you hope...pray...that this move will be the one. And then ev...
I stumbled upon a site that breaks down NHL statistics in some very interesting ways. I have decided to use some of these formulas to decide who this team needs to get rid of. For anyone that’s interested and a source for my breakdown. http://hockeyanalytics.com/Research.htm Offense: Offensive Engagement (OE) measures the degree to which players are involved in t...

Offense or Defense?

July 1st is less than a week away and the NHL Entry Draft is hours away. Rumors seem abundant for 29 other teams in the NHL, while what little news regarding the Devils is scarce and broad. Is this another instance of the Devils living up to their reputation of confidentiality or Lou sitting on his you know what picking his fingernails? I digress. We all know who the...
Its safe to say that the Nashville Predators will once again be scrounging for goals, this for the 2nd straight season. While the obvious next move for GM David Poile would obviously be a top 6 forward, its very clear that a move like such will not happen in the next few months. See, there I could have easily said that last sentence without "in the next few months". Mor...

For most teams, this would be a huge problem. The Sabres managed to escape with five out of a possible six points to start the year. Buffalo's real test wil...
The day Buffalo wins the Stanley Cup.....will shock the hockey world. The loyal fans of Buffalo have been waiting, and still are, for the Sabres to win their first Stanley Cup. It has been almost 40 years, and the team has yet to win it all. They have come close a few times over the years: ...

why the rangers can win it all.

as we know the new york rangers are getting healthier with the returns of dubinsky, callahan and girardi last night against pittsburgh and vinny prospal tomorrow against new jersey,as christensen and fedo are 7-10 days away.we have had trouble getting past 3 goals in recent weeks due to the fact callahan was deeply missed for his timely goals and good forechecking and playe...
It’s been the story of the Flyers’ life this season. Bad bounces + deflections = a goal past Ilya Bryzgalov. Nothing changed during last night’s finale of a Home-and-Home series against the Ottawa Senators. With just 1:11 left in the third, Filip Kuba took a shot from the point that changed direction and went passed Bryzgalov. That was the 2nd time that game ...

No One's Safe

If for no other reason the St. Louis Blues need a top notch goal scorer is to get more calls I'm all for it. I am sick and tired of watching the "best" teams get every single freaking call all night long. Malkin falls down twice, Blues get penalized twice. Brad Stuart drops his gloves first, Chris Stewart gets 2 minutes for the instigator and a 10 minute misconduct. It...
It sure has been a quiet offseason for the Flyers. That was however, up until July 18 when the Flyers signed RFA Shea Weber to a huge offer sheet. With just a day remaining for Nashville to match, one has to wonder what the Flyers are going to do with offense. If Nashville does not match and the Flyers get Weber without having to work out a trade, the Flyers will have $4....
Well the Wild offense seems to finally be figuring things out and not a moment too soon. They've scored 4 or more goals now in 5 of their last 9 with again a new season high of 6 goals yesterday afternoon against the Avalanche. They'll need to keep turning up the offensive heat in the coming weeks as the schedule starts to get a lot deeper against teams that are categori...
I'd say the Wild are starting to come full circle. After weeks of questioning the team chemistry and increasingly mounting question marks in coach Yeo, and this team is starting to look like what Wild fans were expecting with the off season acquisitions of Parise and Suter along with a bevy of young talented players making their mark in a shortened season. Backstrom ha...
CBJ- Can the Offense Keep Up? Looking at the current goal differential and stats of some of the Blue Jackets players, can the offensive production that they have keep up throughout the entire 82 game schedule? Starting with the overall goal differential, the Jackets are currently a plus +11 and are a currently a non-playoff team. Does that stat fade true to the ...
Montreal scored a whole four goals in four games. It's only four games in, surely! They're generating 38.8 shots per game! By my calculation, that leaves the team with a collective ~2.5% shooting percentage. So if stats guys are right, then their gambler's fallacy will tell them that this shooting percentage will shoot up to about 9-9.5% soon enough and they'll be sc...
