Here is what you need to know as you set your fantasy hockey roster for week 7 (11/22 to 11/28):
Matchups
Teams with 2 Games: Anaheim, NY Islanders, Phoenix, Vancouver
Teams with 4 Games: Boston, Calgary, Columbus, Dallas, Florida, Montreal, Nashville, New Jersey, NY Rangers, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Washington
If you of the mind that the Southeast conference is still easy pickins, you may want to load up on the Bruins next week. They play against Tampa, Florida, Carolina and Atlanta. Ottawa and Tampa Bay are looking at 3 of 4 games at home, so they may be worth favoring next week as well.
For the Hot and Cold, I'll be highlighting goalies this week:
Who's Hot
• Carey Price (MON) -4 straight wins, including 2 shutouts
• Jimmy Howard (DET) - has won 9 of his last 10. Red hot.
• Sergei Bobrovsky (PHI) - starting every game now for Philly. Won 9 of last 11.
• Michal Neuvirth (WAS) - won 4 straight
• Tomas Vokoun (NAS) - won 3 straight games, allowing 1 goal in each
Who's Cold
• Dwayne Roloson (NYI) - hasn't won in 8 straight starts
• Nikolai Khabibulin (EDM) - lost 6 of last 7. GAA now over 4.
• Devan Dubnyk (EDM) - not much better than the guy in front of him. GAA now 3.
• Jaroslav Halak (STL) - after hot start, he's dropped 4 straight. Allowed 13 goals in last 2 games.
Waiver Watch
Logan Couture (F-SJ)
7 points in his last 6 games. His ice time has risen to about 20 minutes a game lately and he regularly sends 4 or 5 shots on net per game. Owned in Yahoo: 17%, risen to 41% in CBS.
Chad LaRose (F-CAR)
4 goals and 2 assists for 6 points in last 4 games. He's bouncing around between lines. If he can stick with Staal for any length of time, expect him to keep up the pace. Owned in Yahoo: 3%, CBS: 7%
Arron Asham (F-PIT)
4 points in his last 6 games. He's still only seeing about 12 minutes a game, but he's starting to play much more with Malkin. Keep an eye on his playing time to see if it goes up. Owned in Yahoo: 3%, CBS: 4%
Cam Fowler (D-ANA)
He's been blanked in the last two, but prior to that, the rookie defenseman had a run of 4 points in 3 games. He's seeing an incredible amount of playing time for a rookie and his offensive numbers should continue to improve. Owned in Yahoo: 5%, CBS: 36%
Ian White (D-CAR)
Why White now that he's a Cane? His role with the Flames had been diminishing. In Carolina, he'll earn top 4 minutes every night. Don't be surprised if he has a quick burst of points in his new home. Owned in Yahoo: 18%, CBS: 44%
Keep or Drop?
Fantasy owners are facing decisions on several injured or struggling players. Here's my take on what to do.
Andrei Markov (D-MON)
Drop him. Likely done for the year.
Brent Johnson (G-PIT)
Johnson was shellacked in 2 of his last 3 games, while Fleury has been finding his form over the past week. So, what to do? It's a mystery how this situation will play out, but for now, I wouldn't be hasty about dropping Johnson. It's still a long way between here and trust in M.A, which means you shouldn't be surprised if Johnson goes on another hot streak before Christmas. I'm keeping him for now.
Vincent Lecavalier (F-TB)
Broken wrist has him on the IR for a month. Even before that, Lecavalier's numbers were nothing to get excited about. When he returns, he'll go back to being a decent depth option, but it's time to shed the expectations that he's a top-notch fantasy forward. Standard format, I'm dropping him. Deeper leagues may choose to hang on and pray he's a different player when he returns in December.
Erik Johnson (D-STL)
Johnson and the Blues are in a funk right now. He came into the season with high expectations. Some had him in the top 10 for fantasy defensemen. While that was obviously aggressive, he's still going to have a decent season. Reset your expectations to a 35-40 point season and he shouldn't let you down. I'd keep him for sure.
