Im baccckkkkkk
Well its been a bit of a trying week, first we saw the flames fall at the hands of the Nashville predators, then we saw the Tampa Bay Lightening and Florida Panthers both push Calgary out to only 1 point. What can we take away from this? Well the positive spin would be to say Calgary has points in 9 of the last 11 games. The negative is that Calgary has lost 3 straight games in a row. Looking at the schedule now I am feeling a bit on edge with three losses behind us in a row... But all we can do is hope the win 2/3 mentality can find its way back to the club.
This deserves it's own line,
CALGARY IS AHEAD OF EDMONTON IN THE STANDINGS.
Yeah sure its only one point, but it does give me great pleasure to report!
I am sure I am not the only one rejoicing to see this. And surely this helps keep some of the wouldbe trolls out of the Calgary threads all across the web.
Irving played his first NHL game and I have since had a chance to reflect a bit on this. Sure he had a bit of a shaky start but who wouldn't be nervous to play their very first NHL level hockey game knowing you could have a chance to dethrone the current backup. I said I was impressed then and I still am now. I'm looking forward to seeing a game now that Irving has had a chance to get the nerves out of the way.
Well it finally happened Kyle Turris was traded out of Phoenix! We all knew this was just a matter of time seeing as he wanted nothing to do with his former team and would just have been a cancer to keep around. Who won the trade? Well I am going to have to say Phoenix certainly did on the surface. A player with the kind of attitude Turris seemed to display would not make my team if I was a GM. But that being said its also a great pickup for a young Ottawa team if the change works like it has for Kaberle (point per game since the trade). Phoenix edges the win here.
The firings continue this week as the Habs fired Jacques Martin. There are plenty of nervous coaches around the league this year and I expect to see more firings happen. I won't speculate on who it might be but there are some obvious disappointments in both conferences.
SUTTER SIGNS
Just before I went to post this blog I see Sutter has signed, and it looks to be a multi year deal that will give the Kings some direction. Apparently he would have been in sooner but there were immigration issues. I hope he can do something for the Kings, as we got screwed in his stint as our GM!
GAME DAY: Will the Flames burn the Blackhawks?
Well its Sunday and we are back at it! The last time the flames played the Hawks they walked away with a 5-2 victory in Calgary. That being said Calgary has gone 0-9-1 at the United centre in their last 10 games. Calgary needs to walk away from this game with a victory in so many ways it's not even funny. We need to stop a three game loosing streak , we need the confidence that beating a Chicago team would provide and lastly we need to stop this no wins in the last ten at the United centre.
Tonight we will see Roman Horak being sat and Mikael Backlund being played. After being told he wasn't emotionally involved in the last game Mikael said that he realized where his game was lacking and he is ready for tonight's game.
The lines tonight should look something like this
Forwards
1 - Glencross / Jokinen / Iginla
2 - Tanguay / Morrison / Bourque
3 - Comeau / Backlund / Stempniak
4 - Kostopolos / Stajan / Jackman
Defense
1 - Hannan / Smith
2 - Bouwmeester / Butler
3 - Brodie / Sarich
Goal
1 - Kiprusoff
2 - Irving

Ollie is looking quite charged right now. He has provided five points in his last six outings. Expect him to provide some extra jump in the game tonight. I am also looking for Blake Comeau to provide some great speed against a young speedy Hawks team.
GAME PREDICTION
4-3 CGY
Did Ottawa get hosed? Are you basking in our one point over the Oilers?
What did you think of Irving's first outing? And last which of LA's assets will Sutter tell his GM to give away for a bag of pucks when he starts coaching?
Luckily for LA he is coaching, not the GM!
I think Irving's ready to be a bcakup. I would hate to loose him to another team just because we all ready have two NHL goalies.
Definitely don't want to loose him either. I am hoping that he just plays out of his mind and let's us trade kipp leaving Irving and Karlsson as the duo! (not that I want kip gone) We will have some soul searching to do this offseason.
maybe we can grab bernier from la now that sutter is there. bernier/irving could handle the job.
Any word on the Stajan injury, was just starting to get some trade value:(
Come on Sutter! :-) There hasn't been any news yet that I have heard. It is pretty disappointing that he was just starting to build himself up a bit of value. Easy come easy go I guess.
And waiting on Bourque hearing too.
