Wednesday night at the United Center I sat in the 100 level and pondered the idea of not having Patrick Kane in a Blackhawk Jersey. What would we do? Without Toews, who do we look to? Granted, I'm thinking in the Kane for Miller spectrum, I realized the immense importance of Patrick Kane. Wednesday night when the puck dropped, kicking off an Original 6 Match up, I could not help but be glued to play of Patrick Kane. The puck was on his stick the entire night. He utterly dominated the Toronto defense and made play after play creating opportunities for Marian Hossa and others. I will always remember what Dale Tallon said at the draft after Kane was selected. He was sitting at the booth with James Duthie and Kaner and described Kaner as, "not being afraid to go into tall trees." Kane's goal Wend. was a perfect example of what he meant. Kane found the rebound at battled to be beat Gustavsson to tie the game followed by a beautiful area pass to set up Hossa's go ahead goal. Wend. was a perfect example of what I like to call the "Kane Effect." He is irreplaceable. His skill set is too important and he has answered the call while the Captain sits with Injury. He has a tough test this weekend with a hot Ottawa club and the always difficult Wings at the Joe. We will see if the same Kaner is present.
Notes on the Toronto Game:
> Corey Crawford was awful and its time to ride Emery.
> Hossa played great and looks like he is shaking off the fatigue that has caused him to be a disappearing act.
> One of my huge points of concern is on the play of Patrick Sharp. Sharpie is an important part to the success of this team and was absent against the Leafs. If Toews comes back and is healthy, I think you sit Sharp out for a week or so and let him heal. It's important that Sharp be as healthy as possible if the Hawks are to make a lengthy playoff run.
> Oduya has to be better if Stan Bowman wants to remain with a head.
> Bollig. I like him a lot. He is a better skating, more talented John Scott. He plays physical and had a very nice throw with Luke Schenn.
> It's clear that Jimmy Hayes cannot be as effective with less than ten minutes of ice time. However, a professional player needs to be prepared regardless.
> PP is awful and Kitchen should be shown the door.
Ottawa Preview:
The Hawks head into Ottawa to face arguably the hottest team in the East. Toews did not make the trip and Coach Q is hopeful he will be able to play by the end of the three game swing in STL. Hjalmersson will make the trip but is doubtful tonight. Emery gets the nod to face his former club.
Im excited to watch the defensman Karlsson for Ottawa. He currently has a 15 goals, 51 assists and 66 points on the year, yes, he is a d-man. Also, look out for the ever dangerous Jason Spezza who is having an exceptional 71 point year at this point.
This will be an interesting match up for the Hawks. Unlike Toronto, Ottawa plays a very disciplined system.
Projected Line-Up:
Brunette-Kane-Hossa
Sharp-Kruger-Stalberg
Bickell-Bolland-Shaw
Bollig-Mayers-Hayes
Seabrook-Oduya
Keith-Leddy
O'Donnell-Lepisto
Emery

KANER AWESOME.....BLACKHAWK for life if anyone has any doubt...He is brilliant with the puck. He had end to end rushes all night and if his left winger was LADD, VERSTEEG or BUFF and not BRUNETTE, this game would have been a blowout against OTTAWA tonight. KANE is the real deal...he just needs a winger like TOEWS needs a winger.
