A few tidbits on a quiet Sunday afternoon......
*Roberto Luongo was apparently in Toronto over the past couple days to meet with the Leafs and look at houses, schools, etc. Take that for what you will, but it's starting to look more and more like Bobby Lu will be wearing blue and white next season.
*Speaking to a source close to the Subban family, it appears PK is no longer comfortable wearing the bleu, blanc et rouge and would very much welcome a move elsewhere. Could the Canadiens be quietly accepting offers for the young defenseman? If so, I wonder if that will have some effect on what they do at the draft. Murray??? Trade with Edmonton???
*So I was thinking about all the possibilities that lay before us from now until Draft Day. There are so many possibilities and many trades that can be made in that time and a lot of rumours will be flying around....not just involving Toronto but league-wide. Of course, we’ll probably only see about 5% of everything that has been rumoured and talked about for weeks and weeks, but a few significant deals should go down. Having said that and having the ability to dream, I was conjuring up a few fantasy deals, mostly just for my own amusement.....
To TOR: Corey Schneider, Ryan Kesler, Mason Raymond
To VAN: Phil Kessel, Joe Colborne, Carl Gunnarsson, 2013 3rd rounder
Analysis: Let’s assume for a moment that due to the lack of interest in their star goalie, Vancouver decides it’s not worth it to deal Roberto Luongo at this time. He’s still a top goalie with 5 or 6 really good years left and given their window of opportunity to win, they can keep him, try to win now, trade Schneider and get a lot more of a return than what they’d get for Lu. Toronto still needs a goalie and a top line center. Kesler, who may be falling out of favour in Vancouver, could fill that role. Did I mention he’s American? Raymond can respond with a change of scenery and Schneider, also an American, becomes the Leafs #1 goalie.
It has been speculated recently that given his contract status, it may be wise to deal Phil Kessel now while the iron is hot. After all, if he is not a fan of the Toronto spotlight, chances are he signs elsewhere after his current contract expires and he becomes a UFA. Imagine the damage he could do playing with the Sedins. (Having said that, I don’t see Burke dealing his prized possession away after all the heat he got for dealing two 1st round picks and a 2nd rounder to get him.) Colborne is a top prospect. If Burke can sign Justin Schultz, it can ease the loss of Gunnarsson.
Then.....
To TOR: Rick Nash, Steve Mason
To CLB: Nazem Kadri, Clarke MacArthur, James Reimer, Tim Connolly, 2nd rounder
Rick Nash replaces Phil Kessel as the 1st line RW and is signed for six more seasons. Columbus gets a young potential starting goalie, a top prospect and two potential top-6 forwards. Mason and Connolly are basically a positional salary swap. Connolly can provide some much-needed offense for Columbus while Mason can be our back-up for a year until Scrivens is ready. Losing both Colborne and Kadri hurts, but that can be replaced by drafting Grigorenko or Forsberg.
To MTL: #1 overall
To EDM: #3 overall, PK Subban, 2nd round pick
Self-explanatory. Edmonton needs defense and Subban wants out while Montreal desperately needs an offensive star.

That’s maybe a more realistic scenario but it’s still far-fetched. It’s really hard for me to see Columbus being willing to trade down......but you never know. We gotta keep ourselves busy until Friday.

i know its all fun and speculation but even if the leafs get galchenyuk hes not playing next year.
Subban is a great young defender, no way Montreal trades him and the 3rd overall pick for the 1st. Edmonton wins that trade hands down.
I don't think it's all that far-fetched that Galchenyuk couldn't step in immediately after a good camp.Subban would get dealt if he wants out......and if Montreal could use that to get their hands on Yakupov, I'm sure they would do it.

PhillyD39, you are effing insane. Canucks take two bad contracts and give up their first for the leafs 2nd? You are fu¢king insane. If the Canucks take back even one bad contract, 2 of Franson/Schenn/Kadri/Colborne/Ashton would have to be in the deal.
Say you guys do get Galchenyuk, I think it would be to risky to have him play in the NHL next season. After missing pretty much the entire year last season having him make the jump straight to the NHL is a huge risk with only the one year of CHL experience.
In my opinion, we dont need nash and we dont need to trade with columbus unless its moving up in the draft number one. 1st rounder 2012, Franson for columbus first rounder 2012. Number 2, schneider would cost alot just to acquire from the nucks and i for one know luongo would rather leave there then stay there since for some reason, hes not in good relations with vancouver. The highest i would do for luongo is komisarek, 2nd Rounder 2012, Damigo and Mueller coming off good playoff runs and good seasons.

I think it would be more fair if it was 1st overall Paajarvi for Subban 3rd overall. And this is coming from an Oiler fan who values the 1st overall and Paajarvi in high regard. Honestly though, Paajarvi is just a developed version of Forsberg anyway. Very similar scouting reports and stats going into draft year.

Not to hit this too hard but even for a fan blog based on "fun speculation" this is troubling unrealistic. My only advice: try looking at it from the other team's needs as well as opposed to exclusively from the TO perspective.
