As many of you are aware, earlier in the summer, the New York Islanders announced plans for the "NYI Blog Box," a consistent feature on newyorkislanders.com, where a select group of Islander fans become actual "correspondents" for the team. The Blog Box itself will be similar to the press box only in that members will be issued credentials for post-game interviews, etc. Other than that, bloggers are urged to simply be a fan. No hoity-toity press box etiquette necessary ... cheer for your team, have a beer ... whatever (just so long as you blog your experience.)
The innovative idea drew rave reviews from multiple national media outlets and, in all likelihood, other teams should follow suit in the not-too-distant future. And who wouldn't love the opportunity to "cover" their favorite team for the team web site?
I am beyond honored to announce that my article, "'Tank' is a Hefty Start," focusing on the Isles' signing of former Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ruslan Fedotenko, was selected as the debut feature for the Blog Box.
That said, although the article is already posted here at my.hockeybuzz.com, I am providing the direct link to the feature on nyi.com. Check it out! And, with a little luck, watch for similar opportunities to pop up around the league soon.
