It’s been a weird start to the season. Mantha has 5 goals in 2 games, and 2 assists. Those numbers are, um, healthy. And unexpected.
I’m sure I underestimated big mo.
https://my.hockeybuzz.com...=260089&post_id=18303 The biggest surprise to me still is his ability to weave to the net. Again, on Sunday night 10/6 Mantha weaves through the defense and gets his 2nd goal of the night. Beautiful, and similar to his goal on 10/5 against Nashville.
Two goals tonight came on a bang-bang play with a really good one time shot. Then, a tap in off of a Larkin backhand shot. He seems to be figuring out how to find space, and his linemates are a big part of that. Larkin is doing well on face offs, Bertuzzi gets to the front of the net, Mantha lets it rip. Well done sir.
Of course, you won’t score 4 goals on 8 shots very often. But, he seems calm and steady. Another night without Athanasiou and another reminder that this time has one huge line and 9 grind lines. That will need to change
For now, enjoy it. What a crazy, fun first weekend of hockey in Motown.
This will be Anthony's break out year. He stays healthy 35-40 goals. We need more scoring depth though one line cannot do it every night. Great start though.
