Along with everyone else my eyebrows raised at Ek’s Friday rumor https://www.hockeybuzz.co...s-involved/1/101066rnrnIn part, because I’ve been wondering about a scenario that would bring Ristolainen to Detroit. I believe with Kaski on the way, the signing of Filppula and some culture changes that the Swedish Mafia is finally giving way to something, er, Finnish. The Finnish Five? Maybe. If we add Pujuljarvi and Risto then we’re getting there. rnrnThe pieces going back, I assumed, would involve Athanasiou and Nielsen. In part, because Nielsen and Filppula are very similar players. Of note, Nielsen immediately let Filppula wear #51 for his return. Very unceremoniously. No exchange of high level Pokémon or fine watches. Athanasiou, not that I want to see him go, could easily become the Wings highest paid player next year and with a drawn out process. Mantha seems to be more willing to be on par with Larkin and keep building. Just a feeling. rnrnIf Mantha goes to Buffalo, I expect to see him with Eichel. In turn, i would assume the Athanasiou slots in next to Larkin. That line would have more speed than a Las Vegas hotel room. (Kidding, everyone relax). rnrnWe’ll see. I have nothing but positives on bringing in Ristolainen. Pairings and departures will be the difference maker. He is a type of player we could use and under a reasonable cap number for a couple years. Detroit used to be a bit of a Swedish transplant. Will it now be New-Finland?

Ristolainen will not end up in Detroit.

I hope you’re wrong, but the longer this goes that harder it is to see Yzerman making this deal. A contender will cough up a first and that’ll be that. Detroit can’t afford to give up first rounders. Fun to hope though....

If Eklund is ever right I will eat my dog. I love my dog so it's more likely he get's struck by lightning than eaten because Eklund is correct.
