With the Vancouver Canucks making the Western Conference Final last season, under the guidance of newly acquired Roberto Luongo, is it unrealistic to expect a Stanley Cup appearence? Will Vancouver be the fourth canadian team to make the Stanley Cup Finals in the last four appearences? This Leafs fan thinks so.

After missing the playoffs in 05-06 the Canucks found themselves a new tender by trading for elite goaltender Roberto Luongo... which has changed the face of the club, in a good way. Instead of preaching strong offensive strategies like in 05-06, they've transformed themselves in a defensive club with an amazing goaltender to hold the fort. In regards to Markus Naslund and Brendan Morrison... I guess two negatives form a positive. The two of them saw a decrease in points under the defensive system and offensivly struggled, but don't fret, this crazy anchorman predicts Markus Naslund AND Brendan Morrison will bounce back with a solid campaign. On with the predictions my amigo's!

NOTE: Assuming all players play 82 games, it's a PPG format this way.

Forwards:
Markus Naslund: 29 G 78 PTS

Daniel Sedin: 33 G 83 PTS

Henrik Sedin: 12 G 82 PTS

Brendan Morrison: 23 G 63 PTS

Taylor Pyatt: 22 G 39 PTS

Ryan Shannon: 17 G 45 PTS

Jeff Cowan: 12 G 21 PTS

Ryan Kesler: 15 G 35 PTS

Matt Cooke: 11 G 27 PTS

Trevor Linden: 11 G 27 PTS

Jannik Hansen: 11 G 29 PTS

Alexander Burrows: 5 G 18 PTS

Defenseman:
Kevin Bieksa: 16 G 46 PTS

Lukas Krajicek: 8 G 24 PTS

Aaron Miller: 1 G 9 PTS

Willie Mitchell: 3 G 18 PTS

Mattias Ohlund: 14 G 38 PTS

Sami Salo: 15 G 42 PTS

Goaltenders:
Roberto Luongo: 2.15 GAA .920 SV% 6 SO

Curtis Sanford: 2.45 GAA .905 SV% 1 SO

I see alot of promising potential on this line-up, and like I said, I think the 'Nucks will make the Stanley Cup Finals... will they win? That's another story. But rest assured, the Vancouver Canucks will be a motha trucking force this upcoming season!

Nice blog RG!I love this team and hope they do well this upcoming season. I think Morrison will bounce back as well (if they dont trade him) but the Sedin's still scare me.I think Kesler could have a big year this season if he stays healthy and their dmen all have the ability to put up some good numbers. All of that being said this team will live and die with what RL does in goal. Without him this team will be in trouble. I hope they get that top 6 forward they are looking for because that would make this team a very interesting one come playoff time.

I hope for our sake the Cunucks can't score! LOL, its their only weakness.

Nice blog, but as with any team, the chance of all of these players going all year without injuries is next to impossible, heck Salo never plays 82 games! The Canucks will once again be a very good team with a fantastic goalie and very good D, but this team lacks the firepower and powerplay to win a cup.

gino, I just do 82 game prediction to make it easier, like a PPG thing.... I know it will never happen.

Very good. Forgot Linden but thats me being picky. I do think you over shot on Shannon. He hasn't played much in the NHL. And I think Hank Sedin will get 85 and Danny will get 87. We'll see who's close at years end ;)

Nice blog, you brought up some very good points about this team. I wanted to point out another interesting stat. Naslund, while dropping 19 pts from his previous season, improved his /- by 22 from an atrocious -19 to 3. Going from an offensive to a defensive minded system probably took him a little longer than most people expected, but I think he's striving hard to be a force this next year. Oh and another thing, the Nucks didn't make the Western Conference Final this last year, they got beat out by Anaheim in the second round.

I just hope they don't end up in the Conference final with the Stars.....ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Didn't Anaheim and Detroit make the Western Conference Final Ron? I think the 'Nucks are a top 5 Western Conference team this year, but the Finals? Only if they find a legit top liner to start potting pucks.

YES they are a solid team and should be contenders for division title. However I can list severla teams who on paper looks better then the canucks. I still feel that they are a one dimensional team. aka Roberto luongo. His play will dictate where this team goes. Unlike other great teams with character and depth if they lose there saviour and starting goalie they will still be alright. i.e The Ducks. If giguere goes down they can still rally and be strong contenders base on there overall abilities, if luongo were to go down so to would the canucks!!

504, you're definitely right, it was Detroit vs. Ducks.... my god, where does my Leaf brain take me sometimes lol. I also agree they'll be a top 5 or 6 team, they will be the cinderella team this year...

they need goals. You cna't win games that you don't score in, no matter how great your goalie. They should trade a few d away for forwards, and use more farm talent there. They can afford to have less of a D with a much better goalie. Once they do that, they're In line for a cup.

RG, are you gonna do the Rangers? I really like your forecasts. Keep on writing.

R2R, thank you, sir... I like you're blogs aswell. And yes, I plan to :D

I like this team, it reminds me of the 04 flames in a few ways, however the same problem also exsists and that is lack of depth, if they stay healthy though... scary with roberto back there...

Can anyone say 1994? I just hope the Rangers make it, but it would be interesting if Rangers and Canucks both made it.

and then wore the throwback jerseys for a game... Ryan SHannon is the man, he'll have a great year for van.

Ron-nice blog but one error they made the Western semi-final this past year. The difference between this year adn the past two have been that if something significant happens injury wise Nonis has cap room to deal with it. If he wants to improve his club via a trade he has cap room to do it before the trade deadline. The Canucks will fly or die as a team not because of Luongo but from the ability of the forwards to imprve their game. Shannon, Isbister ( a long shot IMO) and Ritchie all have to bring something to the table and Pyatt needs to get dirty and play in front of the net. I like the team but this division is ugly hard and I predict nothing yet.

On the flames blog you have them and colorado fighting for the top two spots indicating that you think both are better teams and then on the canucks you have them going to the finals. You can't cater to each teams fans on there individual blogs. Make a blog of your predictions and stick by them.
