Another fantastic Islander win Saturday night, this time in OT against the rival Devils, has Islander nation buzzing with excitement. Personally, I went to bed with a huge smile on my face after Bill Guerin's OT winner, just
completely unable to wait for the next game!
This wasn't a back to back weekend, though, so no game Sunday ...
No Islanders to rival Monday Night Football either, dammit ...
Now it's Tuesday and we won't see the Isles take the ice tonight either ...
And tomorrow is Wednesday ... no game ...
Thursday ... nuthin' ...
Finally Friday? Hardly. No game ...
The Islanders do not play another game until
freakin' Saturday when they host a rejuvenated Carolina Hurricanes team. This schedule, folks, is ridiculous!
The Isles had to wait 5 full days to bounce back from a 3-1 loss in Philadelphia last weekend and now they have a full week in between games since the Jersey win. Thankfully, the team is playing well. If not, these long stretches would be torture for a losing club!
For a fan, there's nothing like when your team is rolling and their schedule is loaded. I love those potential 8-point weeks that pop up from time to time! On the other hand, this is just cruel and unusual punishment!
In the meantime, I've been getting my hockey fix from other teams via Center Ice (forgive me, though, if I don't cry along with everyone else tonight as Ryan Smyth returns to Edmonton) and I've rekindled my love affair with hockey video games (my wife's kind-hearted ridicule only slightly affecting my enjoyment thereof.) I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised with NHL 08 from EA Sports for the PS2. I had heard a lot of negative banter about this year's edition (for everything
other than XBox 360 or PS3) but the game's slogan, "
No game is ever the same," really holds true. (As fun as it is to beat the Rangers 17-0, that's not exactly what I'm looking for in a video game.) Actually losing a game every now and then is a welcome addition! It's been fun!
Still, there's nothing like a real Isles win.
Unfortunately, we still have to wait another 4 calendar days for that opportunity.
Building calluses on my thumbs, I guess, while I wait ...

scheduling seems very screwed up for a lot of teams this year
as a Sens fan I feel your pain
I hear ya - it's the Devils own "fault" but I can't believe I have to wait a month into the season to get a home game! I hate listening to the other team's commentators on Center Ice!
