Obviously, today is Thanksgiving, and it is a day to be thankful for everything. Watching the Flyers the last few weeks or so, there have been a lot of things I have been thankful for. Here are the 5 things I am thankful for:
1.) Jeff Carter on fire- What a season Jeff has had so far. 15 goals, which is tied for first in the NHL this season. He is on fire right now and if it wasn't for Jeff's big time production, then the Flyers wouldn't be where they are at. Look at the game on Saturday night against Phoenix. You could tell that Jeff wanted to take over the game and win it for the Flyers. Jeff tied the game late in the third period at 3, then in OT, he started a great play as he was able to get the puck to Richie, and the Flyers won the game in OT. Jeff is going to be a franchise player on the Flyers for years to come.
2.) Matt Carle addition- When the Flyers traded for Matt Carle, I knew Homer just stole another d-man. I was really happy with this move because Matt brings a lot to this Flyers team. He is a solid puck mover who is able to get the puck out of his own zone and start a rush. Also, Matt has played well defensively, and he has great awareness. That is very important. Finally to top that off, he has plenty of offensive skill. He finally scored his first goal as a Flyer last night and I knew the offense was going to come at some point. Matt is going to be a fixture on this defense for years to come.
3.) Gags back and healthy- Simon Gagne is back and better than ever. He is playing great hockey this season. 30 points, and a +15 in 20 games this season. That is what I call All-Star numbers. Too bad the Habs are clogging up all the spots, because Simon definitely deserves to be in the All-Star game. I'm just happy that Gags is back and healthy because we need him to be the 40+ goal scorer that he has been the last few years.
4.) Luca Sbisa- The kid is playing solid hockey for an 18 year old. What is amazing is that he is only four years older than me. He is calm, cool, and collected out on the ice and it shows. You don't see him panic when he is out there, he just makes the right plays and gets the job done. Obviously, he needs some fine-tuning on his game, but he'll get there and he will be a top d-man for this team for years to come.
5.) Goaltending- I am very thankful that the goaltending has been very good lately. We need Marty and Niitty to play well for us to be able to contend. Marty has been on his game lately, and when he is focused, he can be tough to beat. For Niitty, all he needs is the opportunity. If he gets the opportunity to start, then he will take full advantage of it and will play well. I was very impressed with the way Niitty played last night.
at your age, i experienced the flyers first cup. i hope the same happens for you. hope you're keeping a "scrapbook" like i did. i guess it's digital these days...man i'm old, lol.
