A “watershed moment” for pro hockey in the US?
Seriously? National hockey writers gushed about the Sabres/Rangers game 3 overtime game as a turning point to the TV fortunes of Hockey going forward. I couldn’t disagree more!
That game was no more than a pitiful display of soccer on ice. Sure it was interesting because of the stakes…. but the product on the ice was completely awful. It was as bad as I’ve seen since before the lockout.
The ice was horrendous… the puck was bouncing everywhere… there was no flow… players were getting tackled in front of the net… a whole bunch of phantom calls. And from a game presentation standpoint, I’m not sure there is a worse place to view a televised game than from MSG. The camera is so far away and they have that stupid bar across the near boards.
Am I the only one disappointed with what playoff hockey has deteriorated into? In the words of Herb Brooks, “It looks like a bunch of monkey’s trying to hump a football.”
Don’t you want to see skill on display? I can’t believe people are paying $250 per ticket to see a bunch of mucking. Briere and Vanek might as well be Wayne Presley and Dave Hannan.
Here’s to hoping that Ottawa and Buffalo meet in the ECF. This is what hockey needs… a hard-fought and intense series with a display of ridiculous speed and skill. I predict it will be the most entertaining series in the playoffs this year.
I agree with you. The ice made it very difficult for both teams to make a desent play with the puck. It was probably a watershed moment because the Rangers won. If the Sabres had won, it would have been just another overtime playoff game. The NY media has a way of building up the importance of their teams.
I agree 100%. Was a sad day for hockey.

I agree the Sabres series is being played like that but the Ottawa-NJ series is some of the most entertaining hockey I have ever watched. Up and down the ice!!!
