With the constant rumors of the buffalo sabres loosing both of their captians who do you pick to be the next sabres captain. do you pick Hecht,Campbell,Afinogenov,Tallinder,Lydman or do you get someone from the outside to become your new captain. i believe that that wont happon because they have stressed the last few years how the core of this team is the most important thing.

What players do you go out and get. You dont need to go get a superstar even though i would like to get one. The sabres need a dman thats not afraid to hit and knock people down to the ice and the guy that comes to my mind is Scott Hannan. Forget Souray, Hes a defensive lyability and is only good for his shot and will not be worth the 6.5M someone will offer him. This is just my opinion but feedbacks always welcomed.

I have put a lot of thought into this. My feeling is that drew stafford would make a good captain. if this team is going to be successful in the future he has to be a big part of it. he may be young but, I think if the capain were to be placed on him it would force him to grow up and become the player the sabres want him to be. he already seems to have that ability to calm other players and they seem to feed off of him. If buffalo has to lose the heart of chris drury then I think the heart and passion of the next drwwww will shine through. As for a defensive player I totally agree that we need to get a more physical player or two. I think kalinin needs to go and if we could get something for spacek. I would love to get roman hamrlik or scott hannan, plus I think Aaron miller is coming home to fill that vetern D roll that teppo had been playing. although I would bring Teppo Nummienen back but not for 2M. P.S. I also think Tim connolly would make a good C

Thinking of a new captain makes me think of......Brian Campbell, Paul Gaustad or Tim Connolly ( if he can stay healthy). Maybe put an "A" on Max's chest. It might help him get his head straight. i just hope they don't do a Captain a month. It was rather annoying when they did that.

Tallinder would be a good choice, or if Drury and Briere are not back your next Captain could be sitting in Amherst right know. Rumour is this guy could be had for 1.2 mil that would be Captain crunch himself Mike Peca.

You've got to be kidding me with that Stafford nomination. The guy has played in only 41 NHL games total. To expect him to lead a team and garner any type of respect from the sabres dressing room is a ridiculous notion. More realistic is giving Tallinder the captaincy as he is one of the longest tenured sabres as well as probably the most talented player remaining if both drury and briere are signed elsewhere in free agency. Good choices for alternates could be Hecht, Gaustad, Connolly, or Lydman.Peca is an interesting thought however i'm pretty sure those bridges have long been burned.

Love to see how ticket sales do when Quinn and Darcy screw this one up.I say either Roy if thier not to cheap to sign ,or Gaustead.Good luck guys!

If Drury and Briere are gone I vote for Campbell or Gaustad... I think that if Goose stays a Sabre for any length of time he will be the captain. As far as them being "no name" without the co-caps... please... don't be so mellow dramatic... who are Campbell, Miller, Afinogenov, Tallinder and Stafford anyway? Plus I am sure Vanek will be back, and if we lose all the captains (incl Teppo) there will be at least 1 big free agent signing in Buffalo this season.

I think the new Buffalo Sabres captain should be either Toni Lydman or Jaroslav Spacek because they have expierences when they went to the finals back to back years.

if we lose drury and briere how about no captain? this teams going to have a completely new identity and somebody should have to emerge as the new leader (on the ice) before they are proclaimed captain. no captain by committee. all equals.

You wouldn't want Souray huh? He instantly makes their biggest weakness this post season(The Powerplay) way better. Why is everyone so enamored with Hannan? Because we may lose Drury and Briere does not make the Sabres a no name team. Stop pouting and look at the wealth of talent that is still here. Gaustad is your next captain!

Crash the reason we don't want Souray is that we aren't going to get him. Why are we going to pay 6.5-7.5 mil for a guy to play thre powerplay and be a defensive liability? If they were going to dish out that kind of money the are sure going to spend it on a Drury or a Briere. And Jaystains out of your moninations for captian none make any sense.Max= Noway this guy wears the "C" maybe an "A".
