A Rough Draft of the Draft

This is a team breakdown for what strategy I'd take as every team.

I'm going to skip over the Devils and the Rangers at 1 and 2 since it's fairly obvious the Devils will take Hughes and the Rangers Kakko. I'm also going no farther than 16 because after that, the possibilities are endless and these combine interviews and scouts could have come up with anything.

Chicago Blackhawks: Although trading down is an option for the Hawks, I think they should just take Turcotte unless someone blows them away.

Colorado Avalanche: If I'm the Avalanche, I strongly consider trading the pick. Bowen Byram is clear #4 in this draft and with a highly respectable defense already, the Avalanche can listen to offers on the pick. If not, they can just go ahead and take Byram.

Los Angeles Kings: I think they simply just take BPA at this point and take Zegras. It could be Cozens or Dach, but I personally believe Zegras is better.

Detroit Red Wings: I'd try to move up two slots to draft Byram and give the franchise a good chance of getting a top defenseman. Now that they're out of conference from Colorado, why not? If not, take Caufield.

Buffalo Sabres: Their rebuild is nearly complete, so maybe they could trade the pick for a big piece, but if not, take Boldy.

Edmonton Oilers: With Ken Holland in charge, they don't mind sticking a good prospect in the pipeline. Vasili Podkolzin might still be a top 5 player in this draft, but him returning to Russia gives Holland the room to work with this organization and do things the right way for once.

Anaheim Ducks: I think they take Dach or Cozens. Pretty good mentor in Getzlaf is still in Anaheim: why not?

Vancouver Canucks: A competitive Peyton Krebs would be a nice addition to this extremely skilled young team. Add more skill, more intensity.

Philadelphia Flyers: Why not take whoever's left from Dach or Cozens? They have pretty good success with big centers. Plus they can take their time with this pick.

Minnesota Wild: Really hard to single out any strategy with this aging team: I would probably rebuild, but their GM clearly isn't there, yet. I like Moritz Seider, but it could be Knight or Soderstrom.

Florida Panthers: Seider, Knight, or Soderstrom. All solid choices.

Arizona Coyotes: See above. Arizona is still trying to push their team forward - it's BPA for them.

Montreal Canadiens: They definitely want Newhook.

Colorado Avalanche: Raphael Lavoie. Scored 20 goals in 23 playoff games in the Q. Sakic has been drafting relatively well for the Avs, and this is a solid pick.

Possible Steals Remaining: I really like Broberg, York, and Kaliyev. I saw two of them play at the U18s and York looks like he'll be a complete #2 type guy, Broberg might be an ace pick if he can correctly apply his speed at the NHL level, and Kaliyev had the best performance out of any draft eligible player in the CHL.
