And no, this is not a very late blog in reference to Briere and Drury.
Lindy Ruff told the media yesterday that the 2.5 year pairing of defenseman Henrik Tallinder and Toni Lydman is no more. The Sabres top shutdown pairing the past two seasons will be split up, at least for the time being.
In order to spread out the wealth in regards to the recent heart surgery of Teppo Numminen, Ruff has paired Tallinder with Brian Campbell as his number 1 pair, and Toni Lydman will join Jaroslav Spacek on the number 2 pair. Dmitri Kalinin and Nathan Paetsch will likely be the third pair for the season opener against the Islanders, with likely one of the Rochester defenseman serving as the 7th, likely to be Andrej Sekera.
This line up is fine with me. I think working with Lydman may be just the inspiration that Spacek needs, and the Tallinder/Campbell pairing should be able to pitch in some goals as well.
Lydman will be wasted playin with that useless cursed Spacek
Hank and Campbell will thrive together. Lydman and Spacek will not.
Spacek should not even be in the picture. The Sabres should have sent him packing long ago and signed an actual NHL DMAN. He will only downgrade Lydmans play as Toni will be too concerned about covering Spaceks behind.
You have to be willing to give Spacek another chance. It was a tough first year here for him with injuries and adjustments.
