Its June 30th, and as I sit here today, I realize the end of an era is dawning. The end of the era of the Captains. 2 men, brought together in seperate trades in 2003 to bring the Buffalo Sabres out of mediocrity and take them to glory.

But with the mission not yet completed, although at times it has come very close, it looks like the captains will be making a move out of the Queen City.

My question is, how will you feel when/if they leave? Will you be sad, knowing you spent your hard earned cash on their jersey, only to get one year out of it? Will you be mad that Sabres management didnt do enough to try and keep both? Or will you be optimistic that a young core that was led by these two can take the lessons they learned and move on as if nothing happened?

Lets hear you, Buffalo fans and hockey fans in general. How will you feel if this is the end of the Captains?

Part of me will be upset with management because they could have signed these guys sooner instead of the approach they take. We could have kept a bunch of players if they would just negotiate sooner. I will understand though that this is a business and it's one of the messed up things about sports. I will be Sad because Briere and Drury are not only two great hockey players they are great individuals as well. They were great in the community and I have nothing but respect for them. I can't picture the Sabres right now without these two but I think we will all have to get use to it. We have young guys that will step up and compete, other free agents will be signed so all is not lost. We have Ryan Miller!! one of the best goalies in the league. So I will be a mix of emotions as we watch are captains jet out the door to sign with teams that have no shot at a cup but the money that they want. In sports it always comes down to money, regardless to what a player says. Part of me still holds out hope that if Buffalo does give Briere an offer around the $6-$6.5 he will stay. We shall see come tomorrow at noon.

There is nothing to be sad about! The team is still gonna be great and they have not signed with anyone. We will see how it all shakes out.

While last years team was fun to watch , I am really starting to like the idea of seeing some of the kids coming up get some time . Drury

it will be a sad day to see both go but with the money they save not signing those guys hopefully they can lock up Miller,Vanek,Roy,Paille and all the other guys who will be crucial to keep 2-3 years from now

Yes I am sad after see how we won the cup with Chris and Danny this year. We were so good that other teams just could not compete!!! We just blew other teams off the Ice with the top 2 FA that everybody is talking about. Hell we were so good that if another team could just sign one of them maybe they should not even play this year and just give the cup to the team that signs that player. LOOK WE HAD BOTH OF THEM ON THE SAME TEAM AND DID NOT EVEN COME CLOSE TO WINNING A COFFEE CUP!!!! HOW GOOD REALLY ARE THEY? I KNOW THE SABRES ARE A GREAT TEAM BUT REALLY HOW GOOD ARE CHRIS AND DANNY?

the only thing to be upset at are the sabres team policy of not negotiating mid-season and not locking these 2 up sooner. as of right now its an embarassment to see that of all of our impending FA's and RFA's we have only Mair locked up. I just hope that if neither captain returns we make a big splash with the signing of a different top notch FA

I will miss them, but I hope it would be a change for the better of the young talent (Vanek, Stafford, Pominville, Paille, etc.).

It will show that we are about to return to mediocrity.Just when you thought we had left the days of being cheap behind us we have made a triumphant return to them.It shows to me their total lack of commitment to winning.I hope they prove me wrong and sign either one of them or go out and get someone comparable but I won't be holding my breath.Sure we will have a great young team going forward but where is that veteran leadership to take them to the promised land?Even Teppo won't be back so who takes up the mantle:Hecht,Tallinder,Mair, come on!None of these guys are ready to take up the C.Buff's front office needs to get their act together.

The two clowns could not even score a power play goal!!! Even when they had a 5 on 3 powerplay they could not even keep the puck in the opponents end!!! They are worth that kind of money??? I think somebody should call a cop!!! Somebody got robbed here and its not the Sabres
