There isn't much you can say after winning your first playoff game at home in 10 years by a score of 7-0. The denizens of MSG came ready to cheer on their blueshirts, it does help coming in up 2-0 in the series vs. 0-2 without Jagr like last year, and they weren't dissappointed.
32 seconds into the game Nylander scores his first of 3 on the night and the party was just getting started. Halfway through the period Nylander added his second goal and before the 1st period was over Marek Malik, yes that Malik made it 3-0.
The second period was more of the same as rookie Ryan Callahan netted his first two playoff goals.
The 3rd period got a little chippy, do you think Kovalchuk was a little frustrated running after Avery and getting himself tossed for 17 minutes, effectively the rest of the game. Shanahan made it 6-0 before Nylander completed his hat trick.
The referees, rumor has it Bettman was in attendance, tried to restore order by giving what seemed like everybody, but the waterboy a 10-min misconduct. Needless to say it doesn't look like the Thrashers have intimidated these Rangers.
Well thanks to scheduling difficulties they get to do this all over again tomorrow at MSG. Looks like the Garden party has one more night to go, hopefully they are able to end the series and send the faithful home happy once again.
What a beating you guys put on Atlanta. My Pens may be down 3-1, but at least they aren't getting it handed to them like the Thrashers haha. I'll give Kovalchuk some credit though, he at least showed some passion out there by trying to do something about his team getting smashed (although for them, scoring might have been nice!)
I don't think Kovalchuk desreves any credit, he's let Avery get into his head, instead of doing what he's paid for put the pill in the net he's out there chasing Avery around the ice and getting himself tossed for the rest of the game.Or maybe you're right because as Avery said last night when asked if the tradeoff, when he and Kovalchuk were both given misconducts, was one he'd take anyday: "Not really, not right now, would you?" he said. "I'd rather have me on the ice than him."
