When it's been 10 years since you've won a playoff series you know your fan base is starved and that hunger was fed tonight as the Rangers finished off the Thrashers 4-2 at Madison Square Garden.
The World's Most Famous Arena was buzzing with excitement as the blueshirts looked to finish off their first playoff sweep since that year most dear to all Ranger fans 1994. That year it was that team from out on the Island that felt the wrath of the men from Broadway, this time it was the playoff novices from Atlanta.
The game was much tighter then the previous nights massacre, the Thrashers held 1-0 and 2-1 leads though the score was 1-1 at the end of 1 and 2-2 at the end of the 2nd. The Blueshirts went ahead for good on Matt Cullen's blast from the slot that went off the crossbar, but managed to hit behind the line before bounding back into play. A long delay for the people in Toronto to review the play before the goal was awarded.
The captain Jaromir Jagr put all doubt away with an empty netter and the party was in full force.
Now the Rangers have a week off to heal any bumps and bruises and await their next challenge on the road to the Cup.
