According to the team's website, the Phantoms have signed veteran goalie Brian Boucher to a contract. No terms were released. “Brian is a good goalie who will add depth to the organization and solidify our goaltending situation,” said GM Paul Holmgren in making the announcement. Boucher is a decent insurance policy should Antero Niittymaki or Martin Biron falter or...

Why not Boucher?

With several teams interested in backup goalie help, I wonder why no one seems to have interest in the resurgent Brian Boucher of the Philadelphia Phantoms. Currently on a minor-league contract, Boucher has been one of the reasons for the Phantoms first-place standing in their division. As of this writing, his numbers are: Games Played:...

Thank You Mr. Wizard

The Sharks had been on quite a fall, losing five straight games and tetering on the edge of playoff consideration. They were three games into a season long 8-game road trip, with Pittsburgh and Detroit on the horizon. The Sharks were aimlessly following the yellow brick road towards the playoffs, but the road was getting narrower and narrower, and the team was falling asle...

Philippe Boucher, according to the Ticket, is out for 3 weeks with a partially seperated left shoulder. He previously had been out with a right shoulder injury. I love Boucher, but if he's going to be out for 3 more weeks how is this team going to be able to get full chemistry before the playoffs? Bad news.

Sydor Traded

Posted Monday | Comments 0
Sydor has been traded and I should have seen that coming wiwth his being a healthy scratch so often, as of late. Sydor had to waive his NTC for the trade to go through. In exchane the Pens get Phillipe Boucher, who like Sydor, is in the last year of a a 2.5 million contract. Boucher is -4 and has 3 points in 16 games this season. Hopefully, this will be just enough of ...
Happy congratulations to Billy Guerin, Philippe Boucher, and the newly crowned Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburg Penguins!!! I'm sincerely happy for Billy G. and Philippe Boucher, as they both spent several quality years here with the Dallas Stars. As a rookie with the New Jersey Devils in 1995, Guerin raised his first Cup at the age of 24. Tonight, 14 years later, ...
Alright fellow Philly fans. It's time for me to make some rash statements about our favorite hockey club. It's time to make a final prediction for the season and do some speculating regarding roster moves for the summer. First of all, the Flyers have signed another random 3rd string goalie to make a ridiculous attempt at fulfilling sports' toughest position in order f...
(6) Bruins vs. (7) Flyers Prediction: Flyers in 7 Synopsis: Both teams are dealing with some significant injuries. The Bruins get Savard back, but lose one of their only pure goal-scorers in Marco Sturm. Meanwhile, the Flyers are still without the services of Simon Gagne and Jeff Carter...both of whom would be first line players on the Bruins. The Bruin...
It's no secret, the Flyers need an upgrade between the pipes. It's also no secret that the Panthers need a superstar. One way to fill those needs? How about trading with eachother? Here's my hypothetical trade: Panthers Get: Jeff Carter Brian Boucher Picks Flyers Get: Tomas Vokoun Michael Frolik Picks Let's look at this from both teams perspe...

That Awkward Moment When:

A first place team plays worse hockey than their minor league affiliate (who've won 28 out of 75 games thus far.) If I'm Peter Laviolette, Leights starts the next two games. As I said in my last post, having him on the big-boy roster, if nothing else, will show Bouchrovsky that: --they are in fact, expendable.. --that there is a reason why an undrafted rookie an...
The good news is there is plenty of hockey to be played in this series. The earlier you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up. The bad news is the Flyers have taken control of the series, and have regained their home ice advantage. It was the first home playoff game in the Pegula era and the Sabres had a chance to go up 2-1. Despite the home fans rockin’ ...

Who's Your Goalie?

"I'm going to sleep on it, and probably give you nothing," Coach Laviolette said to reporters after Friday's heartbreaking loss in Philadelphia. The assembled crowd laughed, and then someone said, "So it's business as usual, then," which brought more laughter and a confirmation from Peter Laviolette. "Business as usual," he agreed. That statement was in reference to...

What are the Flyers doing??? Hind sight is 50/50 - Yes - but why start Leighton??? I still don't understand why they didn't ride Bobrovsky. Sure he let in a few stinkers but he had one heck of a season. He is young - he is a rookie - why not get him the playoff experience. Will be interesting to see how Bobrovsky's confidence is after being a healthy scratch for t...
I imagine a giant map on a wall in a secret NHL room, probably somewhere near the "War Room" in Toronto where the geniuses gather to review goals (seemingly without the aid of HD). On this map is a representation of a recent national broadcast's viewership. The brighter spots on the map represent high viewership, and you can guess where they are. In between are thousan...

What about Bob?

Despite Peter Laviolette's proclamation that the pressure is now on Boston, those of us based in reality understand the Flyers are truly feeling the heat of an 0-2 hole as the Eastern Conference semifinals shift to Beantown. This is very different from last year. In 2010, the Flyers were taking an 0-2 deficit to Philadelphia, not on the road. On top of that, they were g...
A year ago it was different. A year ago there were three hotly contested games, a goaltender the Flyers appeared able to score on, and a certain will and determination cast after months of scrapping their way into the playoffs. Last night, after two goals before the ice had a chance to start melting, we're left with a different impression. The Philadelphia Flyers are a ...
I didn't spend yesterday night watching my team get swept. I've said this continuously since the Bruins scored their 5th goal. That Flyers team was not my team. My team played the Chicago Blackhawks in the Finals last year; My team was tearing into the the entire league in January; and then they stopped playing. Just fell off the face of the earth. Frankly, I've been l...
The Refs Eric Engels wrote about the differences in officiating between the regular season and the playoffs. He made a good point about how the refs seemed to have put their whistles away during some of these playoff games. I know that some people have an issue with this...and rightfully so to some degree...but from my point of view...if the competition lev...

On Richie: Anyone who says anything about Mike Richards' play or leadership hasn't watched enough Flyers hockey, especially in the past two seasons. The man will be sorely missed, regardless of what you want to say now that he's gone. He was easily one of the best two way forwards in hockey, and Los Angeles gets him at that all-too-cheap 5.4 million dollar cap ...
Ian Cunningham [email protected] Of note, forwards Mike Angelidis, Michel Ouellet, Alex Picard, Trevor Smith and J.T. Wyman, and defensemen Richard Petiot and Mike Vernace have all cleared waivers. These seven players are now assigned to the training camp of the AHL's Norfolk Admirals. With the remaining members of the Lightning's main camp fully settled i...
First and foremost I’d just like to apologize for getting this up a little late. It’s been a busy couple of days with travel and whatnot. That said, I’m here with the Bolts game preview for tonight’s tilt at the Tampa Bay Times Forum against the Western Conference powerhouse, Vancouver Canucks. Also in this blog I’ll be addressing a Guy Boucher question brough...
Over the course of the year, Eklund has been posting rumors that Guy Boucher may be headed to Montreal to take the head coaching job there. BTB columnist Mike Stuart takes a look at the situation and explains why he thinks Boucher will be in Tampa next year and for a long time. During training camp, today, Jaromir Jagr left early with "soreness". As we know, "soreness" is usually media speak for injury. In the case that he is injured, the Devils have a few options to work with. 1.) Damien Brunner - His name has alredy been worn out, but none the less, he would be a likely replacement if Jagr is predicted to be injured into the regular sea...
Last night the Minnesota Wild announced that they have hired Bruce Boudreau as there new head coach. Boudreau went 409-192-80 (.659) in 9 seasons as the head coach of the Anaheim Ducks and Washington Capitals. Boudreau contact with Minnesota is 4yrs just under 3 million a year. ...
