Flyers Depth!

Posted 8:00 AM ET | Comments 4
The resurgence is in full swing. The team that started the season so poorly is one of the hottest teams in the league. Other than the Sharks and Bruins, no team is as hot as the Flyers!

Why are they hot?

Snipers:
Carter, Gagne, Lupul, Richards - not too many teams can boast 4 true snipers. And oh yeah, Briere has missed the entire season (almost)

Power Forwards:
Knuble and Hartnell - they both dominate the wall and the front of the net.

Playmakers:
Richards and Timonen - awesome!!

Pest:
Upshall and Metropolit - both are good at what they do.

Defenders:
Well they are about to be 8 solid plus Kuukonen - who should be claimed off waivers on the way to the Phantoms. The entire group is fast! Timonen or Vaananen are probably the slowest guys on the back line now.

Goaltending:
Well the Flyers have two very capable number 1 guys.

Chemistry:
These guys get along you can see it on the bench!

Special Teams:
Best in the league and getting better. The best Powerplay guy on the team has missed the entire year (Briere)!

Let's hope the great play by all keeps going through 2009. Go Flyers!

I agree with you. Good job! I still would like to see them give Claude Giroux a chance. When Gratton goes back down and they bring another guy up I hope instead of Nodl they bring up Giroux. He needs a chance on the big club!

there is no room for Giroux right now.. he cant play 4th line minutes and asham is playing too well to be bumped back to the 4th

The only way I'd bring Giroux up now is if Upshall's injury is more serious than believed. If he can get 3rd line minutes for a while, I think it would be good for him, otherwise leave him with the Phantoms and play 1st line minutes. He's shown that in the AHL he has the ability to score and play a pretty complete game, but bringing him up to play 4th line minutes would be a mistake.

I would have liked to see Giroux play in Nodl's place. Nodl was not playing on the 4th line. Not sure who he was filling in for but I thought he was playing in Briere's spot and they just juggled the lines a bit.
