I think the flames did amazing with this deal.... we can now probably get a 3rd round pick if we trade Hagman..... Which means not only did we "get rid" of a 6.75 million dollar problem, we actually got something in return....
not to mention Stajan, overpaid, but still brings more skill than a lot of players on the Flames roster as he can pass and win faceoffs.... he's a plus player too... yeah 3.5 is too much, but that is now pretty much market price for a UFA centre who has scored 50 points in his career.... see Matt Cullen etc....
you both lost the deal. You gave up a good prospect and got a bunch of 3rd liners to show for it.
Yes, but the Flames didn't get nearly enough for Dion. He was a huge asset and the flames got relatively nothing in return. The return was not good enough and that's the issue. Plus they gave up on a prospect, Aulie, who could end up being a premier shutdown defenceman.
I dont think any Flames fan regrets trading DP
I don't regret trading Dion.I regret that we didn't get more for him.
Why is so much being made out of a trade that has done diddly for either team? Neither made the playoffs
Because 1 trade does not take you into the playoffs...I don't think either team has really won this trade yet. Dion has not played up to his potential and has been injured, and the players that were shipped off to Calgary are either gone or taking turns getting benched. Feaster will clean up the mess in Calgary who are already playing better under his reign, and Keith Aulie will be a deciding factor in Toronto if Dion can play up to his contract. Then we will see who wins
