What does Renney do if no more moves are made either via Free Agent signings or Trades?
Hossa - Drury/Gomez - Jagr
Straka - Drury/Gomez - Shanahan
Avery - Cullen - Callahan
Prucha - Betts - Hollweg/Orr
Malik - Rosival
Tyutin - Girardi
Staal - Mara
Strudwick/Pock
I don't know, but I see this as a lineup Renney will put on the ice if the team starts the season as constituted today well that is if they sign their own RFA's as well as Shanny.
I know a lot of people want to see Prucha up on the 2nd line or 3rd line, but he was getting plenty of time down on the 4th line last year and I don't see that changing.
The Avery - Cullen - Callahan combo was given plenty of play in the playoffs and looked like a nice combo that as a third line showed speed and grit as well as the ability to put the pill in the net.
As far as the top 2 lines Renney seemed to like to watch Jagr and Hossa cycle down low and Shanny and Starka played together plenty last year the only question is who centers who.
As far as the D goes the only question I see is does Staal start on Broadway or not and I think the answer will be yes.
This is all subject to change of course if Slats makes any more moves in the free agent market or pulls off a trade. Until then that's how I see the lines shaking out, of course a youngster like Dawes can always come in a take the place of a Callahan or Prucha with a solid training camp.
Is it October yet?
The NYR currently have about what...8 million in cap space. According to your lines they still have to sign: Shananhan, Hossa, Avery, Prucha, Strudwick and Lundquist.Lundquist will probably eat up around 4-5 million of that 8. How do you propose to sign the rest of those guys with 3-4 million. Plus you'll have no wiggle room as you'll be up against the cap.
They have 12-13 million of cap space. Hossa and Prucha will get around 1 mill at most which leaves 10-11 million for Avery, Lundqvist and Shanny.
The lines as I see them, if everyone who should be resigned is...Straka - Gomez - JagrAvery - Drury - ShannyPrucha - Cullen - CallahanHossa - Betts - Hollweg
I agree with the Doctor on the lines. Unless he has a Potvin, sorry, Orr-like training camp, no way does he start over Strudwick. Or probably even Pock for that matter. Staal is going to Hartford to start the season.
I like that Staal will have to fight for the spot. Nothing should ever be taken for granted, especially by a young player. Let him earn it.
Just so I get this straight, you think Prucha, who scored 30 and 22 goals the last 2 seasons is going to get 1 million at the most? All you have to do is look at your own team and Sean Avery. He never scored 20 goals in his career and he made 1.1 million. And what did Lundquist already turn down 4.75 million? Shanahan made 4 million last year. Avery just had the best year of his career and he made 1.1 million last year, so he's due for a raise. The only way you can bring all those guys back is if Shanny takes some sort of incentive based contract a la Hasek. But I got a feeling once Lundquist is signed your gonna see teams like Buffalo, Edmonton, Montreal try and raid your RFAs.
Well I guess we'll have to wait and see what they get in salary, but if you think that Slats can't fit in the RFA's he wants and Shanny with what they have left under the cap I think your sadly mistaken. As for those that think that Staal doesn't have a chance of starting the season with the Rangers all we can do is wait and see.
Like I said. The only way Shanny comes back is with an incentive laden contract that doesn't have a big cap hit. If he comes back at 4 million, I'm telling you there is no way that they'll be able to keep all of the players you have listed above that are RFA.
