Hello all!! Just updating you on a long day @ the arena. My arrival time was a few minutes past 8am and departure was around 4:30pm. It was a long day of autograph hounding & hockey all wrapped into one wirlwind day. I made a few observations and came across some interesting Sabre tidbits along the way.
1.
Goose is an early riser. Paul was the first player to report this morning. A trait similar to one former captain (#23). Maybe he is trying for a "A" or "C" this year.
2.
Paul Byron has mad speed. The 5'8" 135lb center was keeping up stride for stride w/ Max on Puck chase drills. No shooting for the youngster due to the broken thumb he suffered with his Jr. team.
3.
Kaleta living it up. "The Fresh Prince of Angola" ( you know you all heard the song on wgr550) is riding in style in his new hummer fully equiped with a horn that sounds like across between a semi-truck & a train. Damn that sucker was loud.
4.
Thiabult to wear # 35 for the Blue & gold this upcoming season. Don't let the online roster fool you #41 is MacArthurs. ( Maybe a sign he has an inside track to make the club or the new guy not stepping on toes) Anyway he is happy to be here.
5.
Lindy Ruff actually smiled!!!!!!!!! Actually a few times. Once during the scrimmage and later posing for a photo with a fan.
6.
Moe Mantha, Cunneyworth's right hand man down on the farm has left the team & hockey for a carreer outside of hockey. I wasn't told what it is but I wish him the best
7.
Jason Cipolla is Cunneyworth's new assitant coach down in the "A". The Yale Grad brings with him 12+ seasons of pro hockey under his belt. Jason played center for 2 seasons with Rochester from 99-01 under the watchfull eye of Randy.
8.
Teppo & the Sabres are in a wait and see situation. He will miss a good amount of time. The exact amount will be determined after his surgeory next week. Darcy said they will know more after that.
9.
Adam Dennis is a man of his word. He came up to me regarding a promise he made to me 2+ months ago after he arrived today and siad it would be done by weeks end. I was shocked he actually remembered me & the promise. He is a great kid who hopefully one day he gets a chance to either be Ryan's backup or be given he own shot. Way to go buddy, keep up the hard work
great job I think thiabult will be a good back up for you interesting write up on Adam Denis looks like a good one
I finally got those pics back that you took of me w/ ruff and brennan. You should have told me my t-shirt had stains on it!!!!!!! You and I both know Dennis is the man! What was the promise he made with you?
good writeup. So if T-bo is going 35, what will dennis wear? And good to see Cipolla getting a chance to coach. hes a good hockey mind
killab4061 check your PM's the answer lies within. Capt. Not sure on dennis but I'll try to find out. Adam and I will be talking soon.
Darcy Regier should be fired immediately. We had one free agent signing this off-season... a backup goaltender. I would bet a lot of money, that by this time next year, we'll be heading into training camp without Brian Campbell, Jochen Hecht, or Dmitri Kalinin, all gone via free agency. May this season mark the decline of the Buffalo Sabres as a franchise... All of a sudden, those Bills aren't lookin so bad!
Good blog. Sabresx88, maybe you need to root for someone else if you don't already. Any fan who would wish the demise of his own team, doesn't deserve that team. So get lost.
i wish for the demise of darcy regier and larry quinn, not the buffalo sabres. i mistyped what I was trying to say... Let me rephrase... "This season will mark the decline of the Buffalo Sabres as a franchise........"
Ummm..Sabresx88, how does repeating what you said in your first post (save for the little poke about the 5-6 Buffalo Bills, not lookin' very hot if ya' want my opinion) constitute rephrasing what you stated?? Bet you were very Rah Rah the past 2 seasons.
I think they should just pin the "C" on Goose or Hecht maybe Campbell and be done w/ it. I've never been a fan of the rotating Captaincy, or the dual Captains for that matter. You'd think Ruff, a former Captain and a proud one at that would understand the value of a solid leader.
