In a text received from the Buffalo Sabres they have named the newly aquired d-man as their newest captain. Also releaed was the news that Pominville, Hecht, Spacek & Numminen will all be named assistant captains. Probally they will be rotated. Since i believe that the league only allows 3 players to wear letters.

So Sabre fans what do you think? Me myself am relieved and suprised all at once. I thought for sure that Pominville would be named captain of this team. But Rivet hass been a leader where ever he has been. And hopefully he can break the curse of the lone Captain of a Sabres team. Every Captain since Perreault has been traded. In fact only 2 Buffalo Captains have not been traded. Perreault & Floyd Smith (Became coach)

Actually Pommer adn Teppo are the Home A's adn Spacek and Hecht are the road A's

Also thought it would be Pommer, but Rivet is more experienced in holding a leadership role, and this is a strong "welcome to the organization" move.

I too think its a great move. Especially since he was picked in a players vote. He was an A in SJ and will stick up for his team mates. Hope he rattles that puke Kovalev on Friday night!!!!!!

I was also surprised and definitely like the choice. I have no problem with them rotating the A's amongst the other guys as long as the C is permanent.

Good for Rivet and good for the Sabres... I think he'll make a great captain. More than any other Shark who had to go, Rivet was the last one I wanted to see leave. Scrappy, physical and vocal... great captain material.
