Well Sabres fans another trying time has come for us. Does Darcy step up and give Royzie his deserving multi year deal/ Or do they sit across from each other during the arb hearing and though what might have been? I believe in this case the Sabres have no choice to step up and protect the $50 million investment (Vanek) and sign his centerman to a deal of aorund $3.25- $3.75 per for 4-5 years.

Lets look @ the facts for a minute.
1. Derek' play has improved in each of his 2 plus seasons in the league.
2. The Chemistry he has with TV & Max or Stafford isn't easily made over night.
3. He is a very popular player amongst his team & fans alike.
4. He is a leader on this team. ( Needs to clean up his act a bit, & gain the
respect of the officals)
5. He is an important part of the PK & PP

Derek is a vital cog in the Sabres Machine. He was important last year. But this year with the departures of Briere & Drury he becomes even more important. He will be logging plenty of PK & PP minutes this year. As Roy goes so does Vanek. These guys along with Max are now the Sabres line to stop. Lets lock him up now and avoid another Briere Situation. Give DR what he wants now and save in the long run. Reward him for his efforts and keep these guys togther for years to come. TV needs Derek and vice versa. They go together live Salt & Peppa, David & Goliath, Chico & the man............ok you get the drift.

The D-M-V line as i like to call it has the chance to be one of the teams if not leagues greatest line combintaions for years to come. They can change the pace of the game with one shift. With Max or Stafford breaking the zone Roy making the nice dish and TV moping up in front Ala Dave Andreychuk. These guys can & will be a force this year.

Derek is a BUFFALO man on the Ice. Hard working & talented. Off the Ice he is a great guy with a sense of humor. So with all this being said Darcy I know you frequent the Hockeybuzz from time to time but lets focus on the task @ hand. Lock up Derek, the Paetsch, the improve the back end and add some more gritt upfront.

Thanks for reading and hopefully i wasn't going off on a Rant hear but it has been building up. Please respond with your thoughts. Hopefully with my blogs i will land a space on the Blogging the NHL section representing BUFFALO. During the season the wheels are alwaysa turning and I always have something to say.

Gil, Garth actually has said this on more than occassion. Also I was @ Rookie camp sporting a Hockeybuzz hlid and Darcy approached me about it. And when i mentioned Garth he just smiled and nodded to me.

Sorry Sabre, I do not have that kind of faith in Darcy when Quinn is in charge. I think he will sit by and let the Arb determine his fate. The Sabres are a mess with Quinn pulling the strings. I think Darcy would like to get a deal done but he is handcuffed by Quinn. I do appreciate your positive thinking though....

Do you really think that Roy (128pts in 194 games and 30) is ONLY worth $3.25-3.75 per year, when guys like Penner (52pts in 101 games and 1) and Horton (131pts in 208 games 18) are getting offers in the $4-4.25 per year. If you want to sign Roy long term you need to offer him a 4 year deal in AT LEAST the $17-18M dollar range or a 5 year deal in the $20-21M range. Anything less than that and Roy will be playing on a 1 year arbitration award this year and will be gone the following season. The markets been set for Roy, pay the man his market value.
