Doug Weight Trade Thoughts

I was shocked that the Blues traded Dougie Weight and It is truly sad to see him go. He has been a fan favorite in St. Louis and we were happy to have him back after he won the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes. But now this trade marks the end of Weight as a Blue I believe, and I think it is better for him to go to Anaheim and maybe get back on track offensively under a new system in a new surrounding, because up until recently, he had no goals on the season.

As for the Blues, this trade shows that they are really serious about making a playoff run this year and with McDonald they are getting much needed offense, because Brad Boyes cannot be our main source of goals all year.

McDonald had 27 goals and 51 assists last season and played all 82 games, also being a major part of the Ducks' Stanley Cup run. This guy is a quality team player and the Blues get younger in swapping Weight for him. McDonald is only 30 years old.

With that said, this trade does make sense for both teams and as much as I hate to see Doug Weight leave St. Louis, I wish him the best in Anaheim and I hope he gets back on track on offense in a new system.

As for the Blues, their last two games have been tough losses to swallow, letting Edmonton tie the game with 3 minutes left in the third period and then lose in a shootout, and then throw everything at the Panthers' Tomas Vokoun but come up empty on the scoreboard.

McDonald is a grinder and a playmaker, he is a great passer and his 27 goals means he can also score. great move John Davidson

Well St-Louis can always sign Weight next year. He will be an UFA. Maybe even get him cheap if his season dosen't turn around.

HA! We all know the Blues history with trading a player and then signing him in the offseason. Weight the first time and then Tkachuk last year. But I don't think Dougie's coming back. Still, as much of a fan favorite as Weight was, this was a great deal for the Blues, and I'm glad JD had the gall to pull it off.

yeah great deal. a guy who's set the ducks record for consectutive games played i believe at 276. he's blazing fast, good playmaker and has topped thirty goals. all things the blues need. he showed in his first game. the blues get 7yrs on age, they have a legitimate center capable of playing any forward position as well as another year that provides insurance if any of the young centermen marching the blues way stumble in their development for some reason. jd even said the blues weren't signing weight next year but time is a funny thing. what the blues lost in weight, the weight that's been playing this year is a veteran with leadership and great in the locker room and a good guy to have in the community. but he's been slower and his playmaking hasn't been as good this year but he usually gets going about this time of year anyway.i don't think this legitimizes the clubs wanting to make the playoffs. they did from the start signing kariya and reupping walt.
