Kaspar already touched on the game last night with the update that the Oil beat the lowly Canucks, ensuring some post-season play for the Flames again this season. Once again, the Flames proved they can't play a complete 60 minutes against a team who wants something just as bad as them. Like I mentioned in my previous blog, you never know which Flames team is going to show up on any given night. Many people are writing them off entirely in the playoffs... I haven't done so yet, as they can and have beaten all of the top teams (minus Anaheim) this season. But this was the problem we faced last year headed into the post-season and look which team showed up...

Not the rumour listed in the headline, but The Calgary Sun is reporting that Daymond Lankow will be re-signed somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 years 20 million. This will ensure that Huselius will not be brought back to the Flames in the off-season and it will also mean that Sutter will most likely dip into Quad Cities for some added depth for next season.

The Flames will have 8 F 6 D and 1 Goalie signed for next season; using up 50 million of the expected 56 million dollar cap next year. This leaves 6 million in wiggle room, but likely more towards the 4 million mark as Sutter doesn't like to toe the cap. 4.5 mil to sign 5 F (at least) 1 D and 1 G. Expect to see Grant Stevenson and some others make the jump next year, possibly even Mikael Backlund. I would personally like to see Stevenson up for the playoff run, he would make a great hustle addition to a 4th line.

Now for the small, but very interesting rumour...

Curtis Glencross, a group VI UFA on July 1st, is very interested in signing with the Calgary Flames. This isn't a late April fool's joke... and it likely doesn't have much for legs... but this is coming from Glencross himself, this coming from friends of Curtis in the Brooks area, coincidentally, my hometown. As in a lot of rumours posted on this site and many others; this may not mean a thing... but it comes from sources I trust.

Flames should sign Glencross just to cut their Goals Against throughout the season by 6 goals or so...The guy was a Flames killer this season...

Very, very happy about the Langkow deal if it's true. He is, to me, the most important UFA for the Flames to re-sign and it appears they got him at a good price ($5M a year, only $1M more than Patrick Sharp who Langkow outscored this year). It seals that Huselius is gone, if true. As for Glencross, I was beaten to it but hey if you can't beat 'em, join em, or have them sign a UFA deal...if that guy played every night against the Flames he'd score 50 goals...

Hahaha, Glencross will not be signing with the Flames. He has it way to good in Edmonton, he has perfect linemates, a great young core, and he said it himself " He loves it in Edmonton".
