It was a night of firsts in Denver tonight. The Colorado Avalanche defeated the New York Islanders 5-0 for their first shutout of the season. The game-winning goal came off the stick of Cody McLeod early in the opening period and the Avs never looked back.
McLeod’s goal, which came off a nice setup from Duchene behind the net, was his first goal of the season. It was also the first time the Avs win a game this season where the game-winning goal wasn’t scored by Daniel Briere. He was a healthy-scratch tonight in favor of rookie Dennis Everberg.
