Colorado won its ninth game of the season on Saturday after defeating the Stars 5-2 in Denver. They outshot the opposition 47-24 and kept their foot on the pedal until the very end. Alex Tanguay scored the game-winning goal late in the second period and Matt Duchene added a powerplay goal early in the third period to extend the lead. Colorado would add a 5-on-3 powerplay goal just minutes later to bury the Stars once and for all.
The Avs are still outside of the playoff picture but have now gone 5-2 in their last seven contests. Regardless, the team cannot afford to lose games. The season is barely a quarter of the way through but Colorado is already in “must-win” mode.
