For the first time in almost five years the Pepsi Center crowd was treated to a hat trick by a Colorado Avalanche player. Nathan MacKinnon, just 19 years, 174 days old, scored his first career three-goal game in the NHL to break out of a 14 game scoring drought. It was the youngest Avalanche hat trick in team history—second behind Joe Sakic in franchise history.
Colorado defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4 to improve to 7-3-0 in its last ten contests on home ice.
