When the Colorado Avalanche signed Jarome Iginla to a three-year contract this summer, they were looking for a player to replace Paul Stastny’s production offensively. Statstny had just signed in St. Louis while Iginla was coming off yet another 30-goal season with the Boston Bruins.

Iginla was always Joe Sakic’s plan B if Stastny had chosen the unrestricted free agent route. But he was more than just an offensive weapon. The Avs viewed him as a potential leader in a locker room that desperately lacked a veteran voice.

I would not say there was a lack of finding one. He and Dion Phaneuf had dropped the gloves in Toronto. It was the referee that said, no. Plus, I am not sure his urge to fight is gone quiet yet, regardless of making Schenn look like a punching back. Against the Devils he again wanted to square off, twice, but no one would go. ------ Respectfully though, not many players WANT to take on Iginla, due to not only him being a great player, but a great fighter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKvurDHUZqE
