Colorado saw its three game winning streak come to an end Monday night after losing a 2-1 battle to the Capitals at Verizon Center. Washington won after scoring the first goal, which they have done so many times this season. The only team with a better winning percentage after scoring first is Montreal.
Alex Ovechkin broke a 1-1 tie late in the second period on the powerplay. The Capitals were on the man-advantage because Semyon Varlamov had been called for roughing. The goaltender was called for the infraction after taking a shot at Tom Wilson’s head after a play was blown dead. Wilson was in the crease hacking away at the puck and Varlamov wasn’t happy with him.
