After watching last nights Sabre performance against the New York Islanders, I came away with one theory. People in my beloved city worry WAY too much.
Watching the reaction of some people around Buffalo Wild Wings, you would think we just lost Game 5 to Carolina all over again. People swearing up and down cursing their performance and telling the team on the screen to wake up. I get in the forums here and see people yelling the same thihgs, crititcizing players and saying this kind of attitude wont take you far
To those people, I say this, BACK AWAY FROM THE PANIC BUTTON. It is Game 2 of the first round. Were the Isles good last night? Absolutely, they came out way more hungry for this game and had the boost of getting their star netminder back. By the time Buffalo started to get it going, it was too late.
But there is no point in panicking at this point, especially about a team that has come back from two goals down 10 times this season and had the leagues best record. We lost one game in a seven game series. All that means is you know win 3 of 5, with 3 of them at home at a raucuous HSBC Arena.
So people, dont get too worked up about the Sabres play. Its one game in a best of seven. Things will turn around.
I kind of agree with you, but part of me also worries what this does the face/momentum of the series. Clearly, the Islanders will gain confidence in this, as will DiPietro. If the Sabres don't bring their best hockey to Nassau Coliseum, this series could become an unthinkable disaster for Buffalo fans. That being said, I think the Sabres WILL show up and win Game 3 - knowing this team the way I do, but that's just me. And anything can happen in the playoffs.......
I agree with you but it's just the nature of fans in Buffalo because of there history. Being a Red Sox fan however I can tell you it doesn't have to last forever. Have faith Sabre fans they have an awesome team that hit a bump in the long road to the cup!!!
I agree we do get a little jumpy. I am looking at the big picture though. We need to dominate our first round oponent. If we the Sabres can't do that, then how do they fare against Ottawa or New Jersey, if we make it down that road?
I totally agree. People need to understand that the road in the stanley cup playoffs has to have bumps in it. I WANT the islanders to challenge us. Nothing wrong with facing adversity in the first round. And let's take a look around the league. 5 of the 8 series are tied, 1-1. Since the Rangers are the only road team up 2-0, that means Detroit and Anaheim are the only two 'favorites' with a commanding lead. And really, Detroit is the only one to win both games handily. Anaheim could just as easily be down 2-0 or tied 1-1. Minnesota is playing right with them. My point: all of these series are tight. Being tied 1-1 after two games is no reason to panic. If we're down 3-1 going back to Buffalo (which I doubt), then I'll be in slight panic mode. But until then, everyone needs to just take it game by game.
