Habs trade up for 22nd pick, take D-Man, Jarred Tinordi!

Folks, The Habs Brass has impressed me yet again!

Montreal GM Pierre Gauthier saw an opportunity to move up in the draft and jumped on it! The Habs traded 1st(27) and 2nd rounds picks to Phoenix for 1st(22) and 4th round picks, all 2010.

According to various sources, the player Vancouver was waiting for was in fact, Jarred Tinordi. I can only assume that Gauthier caught wind of that and decided to move up.

For those of you that may not know, Jarred is the son of former NHLer "Mean" Mark Tinordi.

Tinordi totalled 1,514 penalty minutes in 12 NHL seasons as a defenseman with the Rangers, North Stars, Stars and Capitals from 1987-99 -- Jarred wears 24, the same number as his father. From what I remember, he was huge factor during Minnesota's trip to the finals in 91.

Like his father, Jarred is a monster who is STILL growing! He is currently listed as being 6'6" tall and weighs 205 pounds, but is projected to go up to 230. According to scouts, he has the same mean streak as his father and has no issue going to war for his teammates.

I don't know about you, but I love hearing things like that.

During an interview with TSN's James Duthie, Jarred was asked when he thought he might be ready to crack the big club. His answer: 3 years (He's 18, so who knows, the kid might be right) Both Hamrlik and Gill have contracts ending after this year. I don't see both being resigned. That being said, he has already committed to the University of Notre Dame for next season. I love this move, they have a great coaching staff there. The Habs may also wish to guide him toward the London Knights, a first-rate OHL organization, and the coaching of Dale Hunter for a season.

Tinordi was the captain of the U.S National Team Development Program for the 2009-10 season and recorded two points (1-1-2) and was a plus-eight in seven games leading Team USA to a gold medal at the 2010 Under-18 World Championships. Tinordi also played in 67 games with the U.S. Under-17 team last season, where he recorded 20 points (6-14--20) and 71 penalty minutes.

Seems to me, this is just the kind of kid the Habs needed. A big mean, rugged defencemen, He reminds me of Mike Komisarek, just bigger and meaner. Sounds good to me Can't wait to see the kid in action!
