Matt We Hardly Knew Ya . . .

Posted Tuesday | Comments 0
Sather sends Matt Cullen back to Carolina for what looks like spare parts. Is this simply a salary dump to get better control of the cap and leave Sather some flexibility during the season or a precursor of another move? The players coming back are: Andrew Hutchinson D - 27 years old and played 41 games last year for the Canes. Great a possible 7th D-man on a team th...
Its been a great offseason for the Rangers. They signed two top tier centers to long term deals and retained their core group of players, with the exception of Nylander and Cullen. But its not too late to botch the job. Critics have already labeled this offseason as a return to the "Same Old Rangers". I dont believe that to be true but that is a dicussion of its own. What ...
The Journal News reports that Rangers forward, Sean Avery, has been awarded a salary of 1.9 million for 1 year. Avery, who came to the Rangers at last seasons trade deadline from the LA Kings, helped to turn the Rangers season around. After acquiring him, the Rangers went 17-6-6, a tear that boosted the team into the the playoffs as the sixth seed. Avery scored 8 goals and...

More Rangers Ineptitude

Posted Monday | Comments 0
Through the first six games of the season, the Rangers had scored 13 goals while surrendering only 15, which is a stark contrast from the prior year, when in the same amount of contests, the team had scored 25 goals and given up 25. Just like 2006-07, the Rangers scored the same of goals - zero - in Game Seven, but this it was against Manny Fernandez, who had given up 10 g...
Glen Sather stepped out of his JetBlue plane in Phoenix, Arizona. As he walked through the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport terminal, he kept on muttering "They give away blue chips for free, they give away blue chips for free." This thought never left the Rangers GM's mind, even as he entered into Phoenix GM Don Maloney's office. He had come to negotiate a trade deadline deal w...

In Sather I trust

Posted Monday | Comments 0
As I was wasting more of my life on YouTube today I decided to watch one of the Rangers top, if not the top, prospect Alexei Cherepanov, aka the Siberian Express. Here's the link if you’re interested http://youtube.com/watch?v=KeanH3tLnoM. At one point in this video an analyst mentioned that the Rangers had already stitched Cherepanov in the back of the jersey. Now I'...
Nikolai Zherdev has been the Rangers' best forward in 08-09. So far he has 11 goals and 20 assists for a total of 31 points in 35 games. This is a good thing for the Rangers, right? Right now it is. Zherdev is set to be a restricted free agent at the end of this season. At age 24, he has a bright future and could be the face of the New York Rangers organization for ...
If you have been reading my blog for the greater portion of this season, you probably know that I have been holding onto my belief that the Rangers can win the Stanley Cup with the personnel that they currently possess. But after the Rangers imploded with a horrid 3 game losing streak beginning with a thrashing at the hands of Pittsburgh, my faith has deserted me. Yes, the...

???Really Sather???

Posted Monday | Comments 0
Dir Mr. Sather, I am further from a New York Rangers fan than Vancouverites in 1994, but fire Tom Renney. [b]Really? Lets go back to that era when you quoted that if I had the spending abilities the New York Rangers had I would win the Stanley Cup every year. Well you did for seven years until the salary cap, and you sucked! You are probably against the salary ca...
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say something that many of you will find to be absolutely ludicrous: Glen Sather has done a fantastic job since 07. Yes, THAT Sather. I will go as far to say that Sather made only two glaring post-lockout mistakes: signing TWO free agent centers in the summer of 07 and inking Redden. In the 07 offseason, Sather probably shoul...
Over the last 3 games, Sean Avery has been the best player on the Rangers. Not all-star goalie Henrik Lundqvist who wrote history by sealing his 4th consecutive 30 win season in his fourth season in the NHL. Not Chris Drury or Scott Gomez who are each earning more than 3 1/2 times the much maligned winger's salary. Not Nik Zherdev. Not Nik Antropov. And certainly not Wade ...

GLEN SATHER MUST GO

Posted Friday | Comments 0
March 10th, 2009 Having played 67 games, the New York Rangers are flirting with the unthinkable yet very real possbility of not making the Stanley Cup Playoffs because despite a solid veteran lineup and the solid goaltending of Henrik Lundqvist this is a team of chronic underachievers (yet again). Proven Star players and Team leaders Scott Gomez(-5), Chris Drury(...
As this is my first blog post on this site, allow me to briefly introduce myself. I am Glen and I am a die hard Rangers fan from Southern California who has never even been to Manhattan. As a kid I fell in love with the play of "THE CAPTAIN," (and yes all caps are neccessary when typing that). I've been hooked ever since. I shell out the cash every year for the NHL Center ...
As I've bemoaned in a previous blog and something that is an acknowledged belief of all Rangers fans, Glen Sather has painted the team into a real corner as it pertains to the salary cap. With the UFA additions and/or re-signings of Chris Drury, Scott Gomez, Wade Redden, Michal Rozsival and Henrik Lundqvist, the Rangers have approximately $32.78 million dollars per year ag...

If YOU were Glen Sather

Posted Tuesday | Comments 0
Now I'm going to ask you guys, due to the harsh questions on my last blog. Okay, first you have to understand that I am NOT Glen Sather, a GM, or a hockey analyst. I am only a 12 year old kid, so no harsh comments on ANY blogs. Secondly, I have to ask you guys. Now the question is.... What would you do with the free agency for the Rangers? Please post your comments belo...

NEW Offseason Game Plan

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
With Brashear and Gaborik signed to contracts, as it stands today, the Rangers have about $13.7 million of cap space to work with. This is what should happen with that money if we want to be Stanley Cup contenders. -Sign the RFA's. This is a reasonable amount for each RFA. Zherdev-2 years $3.25million per yr. Higgins-4 years $2 million per yr. Korpikoski-1 year $...
This all began about 4 weeks ago, when Dany Heatley requested to be traded out of Ottawa. He gave the Senators a list of teams he wished to be traded to. On that list, was the Rangers, Sharks, Kings, Bruins, Blues, Red Wings, Black Hawks, and Canucks. There was a ton of interest in the sniper, but Sens GM Bryan Murray claimed he "hadn't recieved a leginimate offer" for Hea...
With the recent signings of Cam Barker and Kris Versteeg to nearly identical 3 year contracts worth more than $9 million each, it appears that the Hawks have dodged the proverbial bullet with regards to the NHLPA grievance over the Hawks handling of the RFA tender notices. After all, if the players had any desire to test the market and consider offers from other teams they...

What Should We Do Now?

Posted Sunday | Comments 0
I just got back from vacation to see the horrid Kotalik signing. Sather just shot the Rangers in the foot (more like heart) with this move. That should have been used to sign a center, not an underachiever. Now what should the dummy do? We need a center, but that doesn't get through his thick skull. I mean Kotalik has a lethal shot and will fit into the Torts system but...
For the many faithful readers (maybe 2 or 3 in all) of my blog posts I apologize for not reacting to the monumentally critical signing of RW Ales Kotalik by the Rangers immediately upon the announcement. If this addition doesn’t guarantee a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals then I don’t know what else Glen Sather can do as President/GM. This is the player who will set up ...
Enver Lisin is now a NY Ranger. He comes from Phoenix for Lauri Korpikoski, who never hit his stride as a Ranger. Lisin netted 13 goals and put up 8 helpers on a financialy troubled and offensively lousy Coyotes team. In my opinion it is a great move by Glen Sather. Lisin is an RFA and can be used as trade bait to lure in the #1 center to feed Gaborik the puck. I do believ...

Trade Proposals

Here are 3 deals that will help out the Rangers..... 1. Rangers get: Patrick Sharp, Kris Versteeg Blackhawks get: Michal Rozsival, Nikolai Zherdev, Brodie Dupont 2. Rangers get: Matt Stajan, Ian White MapleLeafs get: Nikolai Zherdev, Dan Girardi, 2nd round pick The last one is a three way 3. Rangers get: Mikko Koivu, Antti Miettenen Senators get:...
Now that it is official and Zherdev will not be a Ranger in 2009-2010, I thought it would be a good time to analyze and compare the changes that Glen Sather has implemented to the Rangers’ wings. My hope is this comparison will help in determining whether it was wise for GM Glen Sather to walk away from Zherdev’s arbitration award and allow Antropov to walk in favor o...

Dany Heatley

Idk if I want Heatley anymore but he sure as hell would make a fine addition to the team! Let me know if this deal is fair...... To OTT Rozsival Higgins Sanguinetti 1st round pick and 5th round pick To NYR Heatley We would have killer lines if this was made. We sign Francis Bouillon at 1.2 for 2 years and Brandon Dubinsky at 2 years, 2 million and we are ri...
Apparently Glen Sather and John Tortorella agreed with me in regards to Vinny Prospal. In a previous post I floated the idea of the Rangers looking at Prospal to address their lack of depth at the Center position. When I first mentioned the idea I met with some comments that gently reminded me that Prospal and Tortorella didn’t necessarily get along in their time togethe...
No question....Mark Messier is one of the most important personalities in the New York hockey landscape. No question....a lot of players could learn a lot from Messier about playing the game and commitment. No question.....he'd make a great coach/executive. Well....there may be a few....or more. Let me preface my thoughts by saying that it is good to have Messier...

Snake Eyes

Posted Tuesday | Comments 0
I still believe the Rangers are in for another major move. Sather is just lying in the tall grass waiting to strike. Slithering around. Waiting for other deals to fall apart. From what I've read, the hang-up with Dubinsky's deal seems to be term NOT money. Why would they be afraid to give him a 3 or 4 year deal? Shouldn't he be a building block? Despite the cap issues, I ...

Sather's Secret

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
I think I figured out Glen Sather’s trick to being a GM. He follows the rule “If you can’t beat them, SIGN them”. Over the past few years Sather has made many different changes to the Rangers organization. With every decision the response from Rangers fans usually starts with “Why?” Glen Sather is not in good standing with many Rangers fans. Reason...
Shhhh, don’t tell anyone in Rangers’ management about this. I happened across this top secret document on Craig’s List and traded my old Sega Genesis for it. I’ve done some research and I believe this is the only confirmed copy to escape the tight clutches of the personnel at 2 Pennsylvania Plaza. For those of you that want to know the secret to Rangers’ legen...
Hockey fans across the New York area sat down this morning with coffee and a copy the New York Post. As they flipped through the sports section, past coverage of early season baseball and the NBA Finals, they found themselves looking at the weekly Slapshots column written by Rangers beat writer Larry Brooks. At first glance, [url=http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/range...
Wanna hear about the day Glen Sather punched Ritch Winter and why Ritch deserved it? Come to the Agents of Change to find out. http://www.theagentsofchange.com/2012/02/ritch-responds-day-glen-sather-punched.html
Coming into this season as Stantley Cup favorites in many eyes, the New York Rangers have been a disappointment thus far. Are they just in a funk? Are they not as good as we thought? Was last season just a tease? What are they missing? Offense - Check: well... at least on paper. With Richards, Nash, Gaborik, Callahan, and Del Zotto from the point, things look solid, add...
Februrary 2013 The New York Rangers are floundering on the fringe of the playoff picture. The shortened season has thrown a wrench into the team supposedly on the verge of a Stanley Cup run. Expectations have never been higher, and the team continues to disappoint. Brad Richards seems to have lost his game. Rick Nash is not living up to his billing. Chris Kreider is ...
