This week has been a relatively quiet week in terms of hockey news, but there was one major transaction and a big injury.
Austin Madasiky
Earlier this week, the Jackets placed defenseman Austin Madasiky on unconditional waivers for the purpose of termination of his contract.
Madasiky was a 5th round pick of the Blue Jackets in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He spent his entire professional career with the farm club in Springfield and Lake Erie.
Madaisky felt that he could play on the big club, and is now proving he can play with better competition by playing in Germany.
For the young defenseman, it is a great way to improve his young career and get paid more money in a harder league to play in. rnrnFor the Jackets, this makes their defensive prospect system weaker as they lost Mike Reilly this summer to Minnesota and now lose Madasiky. This puts more pressure on their young defensive prospects such as Zach Werenski to exceed expectations. r
David Clarkson
David Clarkson was placed on IR earlier this week due to a back injury. Clarkson suffered the injury on Tuesday against the San Jose Sharks and will be out for a while. As a result, Kerby Rychel has been recalled from the Lake Eire Monsters (AHL). David Clarkson had one point in eight games played this year- against his old team in New Jersey. Rychel is pointless in the only game he's played for the big club. Hopefully Clarkson is back soon.
